My ds & dd are at a school a few of there class mates are Muslim and and a couple are vegan, I feel bad because they miss out on a lot of the birthday and Christmas sweets that are given out by parents of the other kids in there classes, dose anyone know of any multi pack sweets that will cover both, please remember I need 70 small packets of sweets for Christmas as I don't know all the children and don't want to forget one or two that might need halal or vegan, oh and it's a no nut school

Some haribo are vegan.
Some of the Percy pig bags are vegan too.

sprigatito · 14/07/2024 20:53

I would go to a Middle Eastern supermarket (if you have one, we have three) and ask them what they have that's halal and vegan.

TheQueenWhoNeverWas · 14/07/2024 20:54

Vegan Haribo are a thing.

Just go to a big supermarket and read the labels of anything you're considering buying: get the vegetarian ones, don't buy anything without a vegetarian/vegan label.

I think all Percy Pigs are vegan now, aren’t they?

Not anywhere near as nice as they used to be, though!

YellowTassels · 14/07/2024 20:55

Sainsbury’s own brand sweets are vegan so therefor also halal

Putting · 14/07/2024 20:55

But Percy Pigs may not work for the Muslim children, thinking about it.

longdistanceclaraclara · 14/07/2024 20:57

Loads of haribo are vegan / halal. There is a whole section in my local Tesco.

mitogoshi · 14/07/2024 21:34

I had vegan fake haribo from Sainsbury's which were vegan

I was working in a year one class a few weeks ago on supply amd. Child had brought in s few big bags of haribo with the small bags in as it was his birthday.

I was just opening them to put in a basket for the birthday child to distribute when a boy ambled over and said 'wait Miss, we have to do all the Muslims and the vegans first' and expertly rifled through the bags and got the correct ones and gave them to the right children'.

I’m pretty sure that the bags of mixed lollies are fine for vegans.

Yes IME the children are very good at sorting out dietary requirements.

Skittles are vegan & pretty sure they’re halal. They also don’t have any of the major allergens. The multipacks are my easy go to for catering for sweets for large numbers of kids.

bows101 · 14/07/2024 22:09

I buy these, they seem to suit all. Usually in home bargains for about 79p a pack of 7.

Blimey, I admire your forward planning but to be thinking about class Christmas sweets 5 months in advance, is really quite something!

justasmalltownmum · 14/07/2024 22:17

People that are halal can eat vegan.

So you can just get vegan haribo.

Footballsunday727727227 · 14/07/2024 22:20

Lidl and Aldi - both great vegan ranges for sweets, Percy puts also vegan

ArabellaFishwife · 14/07/2024 22:31

Fruitella chews are vegan now. Lots of jelly beans are vegan. If you want really small packets, I think Love Hearts are vegan, and come in those miniature rolls..

DrDiva · 14/07/2024 22:41

Maoam are ok for halal and vegan.

Yes they must have tasted so much better with actual pig in them 🙄

They really did

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 14/07/2024 22:55

Moam's are vegan? I can never find the symbol on the packet nor read the ingredients.

Are moams vegan? I didn't know that.

Jelly tots
Fruit pastilles
Skittles
Swizzles
Love hearts
All vegetarian. Pretty sure vegan.

Haribo giant strawberries vegan.

Most vegan food is halal but not all, so the ingredients still need to be carefully checked.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 14/07/2024 22:59

@SwanRivers what should be looked out for on the ingredients list if it's vegan to ensure it's halal too?

Confuzzleduzzled · 14/07/2024 23:02

Maoams aren’t vegetarian.
