Ive been having porridge on my WFH days (3). I've had it with bananas & cinnamon but looking for new ideas.

Also what amounts of milk/oats do people use.

I put 70g oats with 200g milk in the microwave for 2.5 mins

I guess. Then add water and milk.

You can add honey or jam or compote or stewed fruit

buffyslayer · 24/05/2024 01:05

Peanut butter and banana is my favourite
Stewed apples and cinnamon
Frozen mixed berries stirred in
Chopped nuts and banana
Choc chips or Nutella
Any form of syrup, maple syrup or I have the sugar free coffee type ones - using butter toffee at the minute
Lidl do some mixed toppers which are seeds/nuts etc
Really random but for winter it's great with a bit of mincemeat out a jar stirred in - Sainsburys did an apple one which was amazing

I cook the banana in the porridge, it goes all caramely! Then I usually add blueberries, coconut yoghurt and peanut butter 🤤

FatAndFiftySomething · 24/05/2024 02:51

Muscovado sugar.

MikeRafone · 24/05/2024 03:07

I use one third cup of oats then fill that with water and about another half of the one third cup

stir in heaped teaspoon of cocoa powder

frozen mango chunks and pineapple

cook slowly

then add tablespoon of Aldi coconut yogurt and top with raspberries or banana

the bitterness of the cocoa and sweetness of fruit is yimmy

infactyourquiteunique · 24/05/2024 03:56

I add berries or apples. Nuts and seeds. And honey. Sometimes protein powder.

LeilaLettuce · 24/05/2024 05:34

Cocoa nibs , nuts, seeds and frozen fruit for me topped with Greek yoghurt .

BigDahliaFan · 24/05/2024 05:36

Frozen raspberries straight out of freezer and seeds

FinallyPregnant23 · 24/05/2024 05:38

I make mine 1/3 cup oats, same of milk, and same of water, then I add a couple of chopped walnuts and some raisins and cook it in a pan, then sprinkle with Demerara sugar. Occasionally I’ll sprinkle some chocolate chips on too

TakeMe2Insanity · 24/05/2024 05:39

Dust with cinnamon and almond butter.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 24/05/2024 05:50

Grated carrot plus cinnamon and a little maple syrup

GoodVibesHere · 24/05/2024 06:03

Pecans & syrup
A handful of granola
Chopped dried apricots
Pumpkin seeds
Flaked almonds
Flaked coconuts

AuntieMarys · 24/05/2024 06:32

Tinned apricots, banana and blueberries

FloofyBear · 24/05/2024 06:35

I buy a bag of three seeds from Asda and have a sprinkle of those, blueberries and a squirt of honey

Applesandpears23 · 24/05/2024 06:41

Try making it with coconut milk for a bit of variety.

FaintlyMacabre · 24/05/2024 06:43

1/3 cup of oats and 4 times the water- no milk. Pinch of salt. Cook on hob over low heat stirring frequently. Eat with strawberries and cream. And brown sugar.

Charmander67 · 24/05/2024 06:44

I've been having over night oats the last few weeks, so it has been cold, which has been a nice change. I do 50g oats, 100mls whole milk. Pinch of cinnamon and a squirt of honey. I leave it in the fridge over night then I've been adding blueberries/rasperries/strawberries and a dollop of Greek yogurt in the morning before I eat it. I'm planning on trying it with banana and peanut butter instead of the berries next week.

shma · 24/05/2024 06:45

Adding a pinch of salt is really important - even if your other ingredients are sugary ones.

WatermelonKiwi · 24/05/2024 06:46

50g oats + 220g semi skimmed milk
Microwave for 2mins 30secs
Handful of fresh blueberries and raspberries
Square of Lindt dark choc on the top in the middle which I eat last!

bluecomputerscreen · 24/05/2024 06:53

I don't like it with milk so I cook it with water...
after cooking add frozen berries
ground ginger is nice too
raisins or other dried fruit for sweetness
greek yoghurt & honey
pumpkin seeds or crushed linseed

or soak over night together with chia seeds

Why? (genuine question. I've read this before, but never seen an explanation)

I make my porridge on the hob with pinhead (course) oats, adding water in a 4:1 ratio. You have to simmer and occasionally stir it for about 15 minutes, but it makes the creamiest, loveliest porridge.

Toppings; selection from lemon curd, golden syrup, banana, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, cinnamon.

bluecomputerscreen · 24/05/2024 06:56

oh or add a cardamon pod for cooking (don't eat it)

DancefloorAcrobatics · 24/05/2024 06:59

Flavour with any of the above and add a dolop of plain yoghurt!
Honestly, it's a game changer!

Campestris · 24/05/2024 07:02

I put ground flax seeds on top for the omega.
Flaked coconut
Dark chocolate
Sliced kiwi
Mashed banana (til it's really smooth)
Cacao nibs
Coconut yoghurt
Toasted flaked almonds
Toasted seeds

Inspireme2 · 24/05/2024 07:07

Porridge sachet with water, about 3/4C
I like mine simply with brown sugar.
A small amount of milk over the top.
