Recommendations on dessert cereal

RedRobyn2021 · 12/05/2024 15:00

I'm pregnant and have a hankering for cereal every evening, I only buy "healthy" cereal normally weetabix or shredded wheat or at a push bran flakes.

I want some of the sugary junk that they sell but what to choose!? There are so many

Surely the op is looking for something a bit more decadent? Crunchy nut cornflakes are my favourite. I rarely eat them because they are not great nutrition wise but soooo delicious.

Yup. Crunchy nut cornflakes are the absolute best. We buy a pack in the holidays sometimes. Glorious.
Aside from that, Frosties are still brilliant.

ArmchairPhycologist · 12/05/2024 16:49

Crunchy nut cornflakes are lush.

I also enjoy an occasional bowl of Coco Pops.

@Lovinglife57 These are the little shredded pillows I was thinking of, lots of brands and flavours available. They also do a frosted version, but because they are shredded wheat, my brain says that it cancels out any naughtiness such as the sugar content! 😆

Oh yes these are good too - again, there’s a version with crunchy nut stuff on them and that’s lovely.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/05/2024 16:50

I can't believe no-one's said coco pops. You're all crazy

How is that healthy read what op wants

She doesn't want healthy- that's what she normally buys!

OP I'd go for a granola or fruity nutty muesli or special K or one of the ones which chocolate chunks in it. With super-cold milk, obviously.

No, she wasn't! She normally eats healthy cereals so was asking which sugary ones are best!

I'm seconding Honey Nut Cornflakes, Frosties, frosted Cheerios and, strangely, really expensive granola eaten dry by the handful - or with thick cream, custard or ice cream. Then again, you could get Kind bars, which do an even better job of delivering sugary deliciousness while pretending to be healthy.

There's a Kit Kat cereal ... ?!!

ExcellentCat · 12/05/2024 16:53

Aldi cinnamon squares - if you’re lucky you get a box with extra topping. I take them to work in a little tub & pretend it’s better than eating chocolate

😂 Sorry, I didn't. Then I cross-posted with everyone saying the same and getting on your nerves!

I have been back and graciously 'liked' your apology, if that helps?

Jordan’s do a red velvet granola. It has berries and bits of chocolate brownie in it. It’s lush. Really nice with yoghurt and or milk

TheShellBeach · 12/05/2024 16:59

Kit Kat cereal is lovely.
I only ever bought one box, because it's so good that I ate the whole box in one go.
🤣

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/05/2024 17:02

Going by liking Weetabix, Shredded Wheat and Bran Flakes, I reckon you'd like Shreddies or cinnamon thingies (used to be called Grahams), with a possible for Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and Sugar Puffs (whatever they're called nowadays) because they've all got the wheaty, malty, slightly syrupy, toasty flavour to them.

I don't think the texture of Coco Pops/Rice Krispies would appeal as much.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 12/05/2024 17:02

Chocolate Weetos. Taste of chocolate, crunchy, taste like sugary junk, but actually not too unhealthy (in the realm of cereal, anyway, comparable to weetabix).

My son has Type 1 diabetes, and I learnt that when it says "carbohydrate, of which sugars" on a cereal packet, your body does not care how much is sugars. Cereal is basically predigested, the carbs from Weetabix land in the bloodstream in the form of glucose just as fast as the carbs from Frosties. Weetabix is a monster for spiking the blood sugar high and fast. (Not a problem for people with functional pancreases). Weetabix has 69% carbs, Weetos 77%. Similar fat, fibre, protein, added vitamins. If you're happy eating Weetabix then Weetos are as good (and chocolatey).

I may eat them like crisps.

Doesanyoneknowwhattheyaredoing · 12/05/2024 17:05

What about those cornflake chocolate cake things (cornflakes mixed with melted chocolate). Sort of cereal….

I do love crunch nut cornflakes as everyone has suggested

upset about the weetabix post as I didn’t think they were so bad for you

RedRobyn2021 · 12/05/2024 18:51

Love the suggestions!

Haven't had crunchy nut for years they were always very good

But I forgot wheetos used to be my favourite cereal

I am intrigued by the kitkat cereal though 🤔

Curiously cinnamon or Kellogs crunchy nut clusters are probably my faves. Absolutely full of sugar hah

OneThreadOnly · 12/05/2024 19:50

Crunchy nut cornflakes are the goat.

I think you're the one who needs to read the OP properly!

She usually buys healthy cereal and is looking for something different.
