Crumble fillings - not apple

I'm just wondering what are some of your fav crumble fillings? Mine is apple, but peeling, coring, chopping is a PITA.

Any tinned/ frozen fruit work well? I thought of frozen mix berry or tinned pear would they work?

I'm 13 weeks pregnant and loving crumble and custard!

Rhubarb is my favourite.

Spiced plum is lovely too.

Pear and walnut. I've done apple with frozen raspberry before, and it was a bit runny so I'd suggest defrosting berries first, and thickening the juices.

Peach crumble is my absolute favourite, I use tinned peaches and squeeze a bit of lime and add the zest in and use a Demerara sugar crumble topping. I could eat 6 servings in one go.

Rhubarb with strawberries is a magic combo

ginasevern · 06/02/2024 13:03

My favs are rhubarb, plum and particularly gooseberry (not all together). My local polish shop sells a good selection of frozen fruit including plums and greengages which are excellent. If you have one near you look in their freezer cabinet.

@pontipinemum tinned fruit works a treat, I drain it before putting in a dish. My DC even like fruit cocktail crumble. The tin of pineapple would be lovely, drained and placed in a single layer then topped with a sponge mix before baking.

Oh I often do apple, pear, plum and blueberry, together in one crumble.
If cherries are in season or cheap enough I swap out blueberries for cherries.
Add in vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon to both fruit and crumble.
Also if up to it add nuts or muesli or both to the crumble mix.
I have used frozen fruit, it can be watery. I've never used tinned fruit so I think I will try that soon.

Add some sultanas to the apricots - yum.

barkymcbark · 06/02/2024 13:18

Rhubard
Tinned cherries
Tinned peaches
Pretty much any tinned or frozen fruits will do

CurlewKate · 06/02/2024 13:21

You do have to be careful with tinned fruit-it can be too sweet. Peeling and chopping the apples takes 5 minutes- worth every second.

ilovepixie · 06/02/2024 13:22

Cherry!

Courgette & Blackberry - Divine!!

SummaLuvin · 06/02/2024 13:34

I know someone who makes damson gin every year, once it is fully infused she removes the damsons, pits them, and makes them into a drunken damson crumble, it is divine with custard!

AdoraBell · 06/02/2024 13:35

Tinned peaches with frozen berries, either a mix or raspberries.

AdoraBell · 06/02/2024 13:39

Also, with frozen berries you can cook the crumble topping separately. I’ve done the toppping on a baking tray and add it to the fruit when serving.

handmademitlove · 06/02/2024 13:44

Peach and Raspberry - like Peach Melba!

our other favourite is Strawberry...

spottydinosaur · 06/02/2024 13:53

Tinned peaches, tinned pears & fresh raspberries!

Buy a pack of crumble mix.

Easiest dessert ever

ScribblingPixie · 06/02/2024 13:56

They have tinned rhubarb in M&S at the moment. Big tins, £1.30 in my M&S

twilightcafe · 06/02/2024 14:00

Add salted caramel sauce to chopped apples. [chef's kiss]

PossumintheHouse · 06/02/2024 14:06

Mango, pear and ginger crumble is absolutely delicious. Add some crushed ginger biscuits and flaked almonds to a traditional topping.

Also love cherry crumble, ginger and rhubarb and apple and blackberry.

AmaryllisChorus · 06/02/2024 14:07

I use frozen fruits of the forest sometimes. With a bit of sweet cinnamon and some good vanilla essence. Lovely.

caringcarer · 06/02/2024 14:11

My Mum always used to make rhubarb and raspberry. Then custard or ice cream with it.

overthestorms · 06/02/2024 19:52

Love a rhubarb crumble. I've never made a gooseberry crumble before but our air bnb host grew them and made us a couple. They were unbelievably good!

Nelliemellie · 06/02/2024 19:58

I add a spoonful of cinnamon and cardamom powder to the topping before cooking and keep the fruit and topping cooking separately and then add the crumble so it’s not soggy. With some porridge oats as well. Good flavour if using apples.

Mysterian · 06/02/2024 20:13

My favourites I've had are apricots, and banana and chocolate chips. Lovely.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 06/02/2024 21:19

When I was younger I used to buy a tin of apples and a packet of crumble. Job done
