We have been invited to friends for the evening and have been asked to bring something Christmassy to be part of a 'Grazing Table'. I cannot think of anything other than cheese/dips/crackers etc with a holly branch on the side!

I do these little puff pastry parcels with brie and caramelised onion or cranberry they are so quick and look very nice.

I wish, I love M & S, but live in NZ. It is one of the things I miss most!😁

I made these recently - they were pretty easy and went down well: www.janespatisserie.com/2017/11/24/christmas-cookie-bars/

A Nutella pastry Christmas tree? Are you thinking sweet or savoury ?

OneMiniMincePieTooFar · 09/12/2023 08:54

Profiteroles?

A cranberry topped pork pie?

TheGirlWhoLived · 09/12/2023 08:54

I’m a good cook but a rubbish baker so I always end up with marshmallow snowmen, Nutella pastry tree or Christmas bark 😃

FiveShelties · 09/12/2023 08:54

Thank you so much, they are fantastic suggestions, my mind went blank - could only think of turkey and mince pies!

Cheese board in a jar .. layers of cheese and nuts and/ or dried fruit/ chocolate nuts ... wrapped the jar in a few ribbons or add baubles if you have any- I do this every time !

FiveShelties · 09/12/2023 08:55

@doubleshotcappuccino that sounds amazing - how do I do that?

Stilton and cheese biscuits.

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/12/2023 08:59

Honestly it's lovely and very simple and seems to be well received .. so I use a large mason jar or other glass .. layer the cheese with other items .. can use anything I've bought for home for Christmas .. and then decorate with ribbons or like me take something from our Christmas decorations .. just whatever you have to spare ..

How is that served though? I simply can’t quite work it out!

Cheesy Christmas Stars - like mini cheese scones:
Cheesy Christmas Stars
You will need:
· 150g (6oz) self-raising flour
· Half a teaspoon of salt
· 75g (3oz) butter or margarine
· 75g (3oz) cheese, finely grated
· 1 egg and one tablespoon of milk, beaten together
· A star shaped cutter
· A greased baking sheet

What to do:

  1. Heat the oven to 200 C, 400 F, gas mark 6.
  2. Sift the flour and salt though a sieve. Add the butter and margarine and rub it with your fingers to make fine crumbs.
  3. Leave a tablespoon of grated cheese on a saucer. Add the rest of the cheese to the bowl and stir it in.
  4. Put a tablespoon of the beaten egg and milk mixture into a cup. Mix the rest into the flour to make a dough.
  5. Sprinkle flour onto a clean work surface. Roll out the dough until it is slightly thinner than your little finger
  6. Cut out the stars
  7. Brush the stars with the rest of the egg mixture, then sprinkle them with the rest of the cheese
  8. Put the stars onto the greased baking sheet and bake them in the oven for eight to ten minutes until they are golden.

looks lovely

but utterly impractical for a party

contactus · 09/12/2023 09:05

and what if someone want cheese and crackers but no nuts

or they fancy some dried fruit and chocolate nuts but they whiff heavily of cheese?

contactus · 09/12/2023 09:07

and layers of cheese? but what if you want cheddars but it’s four layers below other very strong smelling cheeses?

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/12/2023 09:07

@pickledandpuzzled when we've got to friends the jar is opened by the hosts and used with the other Christmas nibbles .. I'm sure they could put it on a tray but it looks nice and we've been asked to bring it again a few times so I genuinely think they like it and I love carrying it in with a bottle of something .. because it took very little effort

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/12/2023 09:08

@contactus we don't use strong smelling cheeses in the lower layers and the cheese tends to be repeated
So you don't have to dig around but it's more "something different " rather than a well thought out meal ..

what cheeses do you use? and you separate each cheese with dried fruit and chocolate nuts?

contactus · 09/12/2023 09:13

do you have a photo @doubleshotcappuccino im intrigued!

12daysofchristmashell · 09/12/2023 09:14

Maria Carey holding a mince pie?

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/12/2023 09:16

@contactus I'm not sure I have a photo but I got the idea from seeing charcuterie jars on the internet but didn't want to use meat for longer journeys and quite liked idea of cheese and nuts so built it on from there !

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/12/2023 09:18

@contactus I use harder cheeses that we have in anyway and also we love
Gouda / emmenthal/ cheddar etc .. I'm looking for a seasonal aesthetic so will layer with nuts and dried fruits and dried choc or dates if we have
