I want my flapjacks CHEWY, goddammit!

My mum used to make lovely chewy flapjacks but mine always seem to end up crumbly and I don't know why. I've tried syrup, no syrup, and different kinds of sugar. Anyone have any foolproof recipes with guaranteed chewiness.

My mum can't remember hers, in case you're wondering.

I never said they were low calorie or good for you, I just said they were delicious

Make sure you don't over cook them. They should be golden, but not brown if you see what I mean!

A friend has tried it using Splenda or some other sugar replacement and says it works fine. I just don't like aspartame etc. so I always use the real stuff.

Top Tip. When you've cut them up, freeze them in sets of 4 pieces. That way, you only end up eating 4 at a time, rather than the whole blooming batch

Oh Midnightexpress - I'm so glad they are ok!

Dates are absolutely delicious in flapjacks - they make them so moist and chewy. Another lovely mixture is dates and ginger. I use the ginger in sweetened syrup, chopped into little pieces.

What a wonderful mother you are, thinking of your children's dental health.

Oh no. Now I'm going to have to make more littlefish.

Oh dear. DH and I can't stop eating them . We may have to use your freezer idea but suspect they won't make it that far.

Forgot to say Midnightexpress - that film is one of my all time favourites (in a grim way)!

LOL PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt! Step away from the flapjacks!

Add 2-3 mushy bananas.

You can cut down the amount of sugar. I spent a good few baking sessions testing my condensed milk recipe adjusting the sugar content down from shocking to merely excessive. I'm sure it could go down further.

Most of the shop bought flapjacks seem to have condensed milk in them.

No point freezing them as you can defrost them to just-baked warmness in a few seconds using a microwave.

Allegedly.

LOL Soupy! Not that you've ever tried it, of course.

I'll have a go at reducing the sugar next time I make them and report back.

Pinions, for some reason, the idea of banana flapjacks just doesn't appeal to me. Silly really as I love banana cake. Does it just go brown? Will they freeze?
