World War 2 Rationing Challenge: too much food?

My partner has bet me I can't follow the UK world war 2 ration for November 1943 for a week.

I've just done the shopping for it and it seems like too much food. I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. Has anyone done this?

All of these programmes sound really interesting.

@StoatofDisarray Just wanted to say a big thank you for this thread. I've really enjoyed reading what you've eaten and how it went (and delighted that dripping was a hit).

@BonjourCrisette I'm glad everyone has been so indulgent: it's really helped me stay motivated to know I needed to keep you all updated as the week progressed.

I've learned a lot about myself and my attitude to food: it's been a positive experience!

Hi all! Just a quick one to say that I was going to finish by eating the French ration that had started all this off, but it hasn't arrived! I guess it's been held up in the Black Friday delivery backlog. So it's over and out from me and have a very nice evening :-)

Thanks for a great thread... and if you decide to do it again with any other culinary age or genre... please start another!

@StoatofDisarray thank you so much for this thread, and everyone who has contributed with links and personal stories! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it and have learnt so much from it.

My dad was able to get dried bananas - not banana chips - they were soft. He loved them! Was very unhappy when the 'proper' ones were available.

thank you for this thread- I have really enjoyed reading it. My parents were born in 1921 & 1925 to large mining families so were well used to small amounts of food being stretched. My dear ol' Ma was a brilliant cook and could make a meal out of nothing- a trait I didn't inherit alas. I recall my lovely Aunt Nellie making leek pudding out of leeks my Uncle grew in his allotment served with rabbit stew which was absolutly delicious. Herbs from the garden, barley, neeps and her home made stotties with dripping

Real food and full of flavour

Ok here we go:

Unlimited seasonal UK grown fruit and veg
Unrationed beer, oats, brown bread, game (limited to one item, e.g. a piece of venison or a pheasant)
Meat costing 1s2d which was worth about £2.68 in 2021 so I'm upping it to £2.75 so I bought minced beef
113g smoked streaky bacon
227g sugar
Homemade damson jam 57g
Cheese, lard and butter: 57g of each
Flora hard margarine 113g
Equivalent of 12 eggs in dried egg powder
5 points spent on: 3 x 85g spam and 2 tins baked beans
1 meal out costing no more than the equivalent of 5 shillings (£13.95): I'm going to have fish and chip supper

I know I'm late but there is a problem with the points. One can of Spam was 16 points or a month worth of points.
