Savoury snacks to share at the office - homemade?

At my office we have a custom of bringing in sweet treats - blondies, cookies etc. - for special occasions. It’s my turn soon, and I’d like to do something savoury instead, but am stuck for ideas.

Snacks need to be single serve, cold/at room temperature, and taste good the next day (I would be baking the day before). I’m a good cook, but draw the line at making my own pastry etc. And. at the risk of being a terrible snob, I’m looking for something a little more sophisticated than sausage rolls.

I was thinking a platter of sushi (bought), but would ideally like to make something at home. Any ideas?

Ugh there’s a reason that platters of sushi aren’t commonly shared at the office.

what about cheese straws?

You could do savoury scones or a savoury loaf, like celery and cheese.

Turkey and cranberry
Pork and tomato

Biscotti

Sushi fails the tastes good the next day, and I wouldn’t want to eat sushi which had been sitting out for hours.

Cheese biscuits are a crowd pleaser. My go to recipe is equal parts flour, butter and grated cheese, with a pinch of mustard or cayenne pepper. A favourite canapé at a wedding I was at recently was a small cheesy biscuit with spoon of rich tomato sauce on top. It was simple and delicious.

Agree sushi not a good idea but was going to suggest cheese scones or savoury muffins

The only savoury item that goes down well in our office are samosas.

Pastry is your friend here.

Sounds good to me!

Yes, they are popular - with everyone except me apparently (I don't like spicy food).

Sorry I can't think of an idea but just coming to say I'm glad not all of MN baulk at the idea of eating on weekdays eating home made food! I didn't realise so many people had issue with it until I joined MN

We used to run a village shop (bear with me) and our shop-dog Labrador had a group of customers who would bring him treats. One day one of them only had carrot sticks and she gave him one. He held it in his mouth for a moment and then literally spat it across the shop.

What I'm trying to say is in my experience, my fellow office bunnies and I are all Labradors.

Having said that, pinwheels?

I had yellow sticker filo pastry in the freezer and used it to make mini spanakopita. Loads of filling recipes online - basically eggs, feta, spinach - I did vegan: smoked tofu, gram flour, spinach, spring onion. I brushed a sheet of filo with oilve oil; dob of filling on the filo; wrapped filo round filling like a bundle of fish and chips and baked.

Rock cakes

The only rock cakes I know of are sweet, similar to a rough scone with sultanas in them like these: Rock cakes recipe | BBC Good Food
Do you have a savoury recipe called 'rock cakes' too? I'd be interested in the recipe for your version.

Marmite pin wheels, cheese biscuits or I quite like ham and cheese muffins but they are ultimately better warm.

I'll have you know my sausage rolls are legendary and much sort after at the buffet table.

Top the sausage meat with mango chutney and crumbled feta and add fennel seeds on outside.....

Not just any sausage roll, M&S type sausage roll!
