Proper shortbread, who makes the best?

My brother loves shortbread, I've tried making it but to be honest I'm crap. I want to get him some really lovely proper shortbread. Where has the best? Other flavours also welcome.

Whittards shortbread biscuits are delicious! They have a few different flavours I believe.

Sainsbury's in the red packet. I buy several packs whenever I'm in a Sainsbury's as I no longer live nearby one. Work colleagues confirm they are among the nicest.

You nice texture, not too crumbly - perfect for dipping, and you can taste the salt but just enough.

If not homemade then M&S isn't too bad

I love the Betty's one, it's delicious!

Tried M&S and Sainsbury's both lovely, I should've added I wanted something a little 'nicer' as it's a little gift.

Any that are 100% butter and not with oils added.
Fortumn and mason or Harrods you wnat fancy. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with traditional walkers

I think I read somewhere that Lidl's are among the best. It's made in Scotland from a well known producer - this was over a year ago though so could have changed?

M&S had a "homemade style" one last time I was in. I've not tried it, though.

The Sawley Kitchen shortbread is lovely and they have done interesting flavours. They do mail and it's packaged very well.

I bought some at the York Xmas market a few years ago and always get done I. Got Christmas and for stocking treats as everyone loves it. Rhubarb and custard is my fave!

Walkers are very good and do Christmas gift packs.

I usually get him M&S but wanted to do something different this year. He likes authentic he's very fussy! But says if he's eating rubbish it has to be good rubbish and made properly. I'm also tasked with handmade fresh chocolates. Tried Choco he loved the truffles but they don't do them separately so I'm back to square one. It's the only things he's asked for so I want to get it right.

I know it's not Scottish but have you tried aberffraw biscuits? They're delicious welsh shortbread, shaped like a seashell.

Op, I do this one and it really is very easy. The fact it has oats in it and is rustic makes it easier to do than normal shortbread.

M&S used to be my favourite for the most like homemade ( and we still go through their big tins at Christmas) but I think I prefer Lidls all butter shortbread in the black cardboard packaging, it’s really good

Any shortbread recipe which includes some rice flour will give it a really good texture.

Deans of Huntly all butter shortbread are the best! Shortbread has to be all butter!

Fortnum and Mason shortbread is really good.

Chrystals shortbread. We found it in Edinburgh and it’s delicious. It’s already been requested instead of a postcard by relatives for when we next go.
