Is it worth getting an airfyer

Just confused about wether it is worth buying an airfryer. Are they as good as they are made out to be? Can you really cook a whole meal in it. Is the 2 drawer option better.

2 drawer for sure and it's deff worth it. I haven't used my oven since Xmas apart from pizza cos it's too big. My husband was against getting one as we have a lot of gadgets but he agrees it's been the best ever purchase

Aquamarine1029 · 30/09/2023 13:26

We absolutely love our air fryer. I will never be without one, and my only advice is to not bother getting a small one. A large capacity or two drawer is definitely the way to go. It's a rare day when ours isn't used.

legalseagull · 30/09/2023 13:27

2 drawer all the way. I got a one drawer one, used it every single day, so upgraded to the two drawer. We never use the oven now. It's faster, tastier and more economical.

DNLove · 30/09/2023 13:31

Yes, rarely use oven now but if you are getting one invest in a good one. I have ninja dual which is brilliant, especially with kids that tend to eat "beige" foods. Nuggets and waffles on plate in under 15 mins.
I use mine for roast chicken, baked potatoes, baked porridge, "boiled" eggs, baked feta, etc etc. It essentially a mini oven.
Ninja have a new one that has one massive drawer but has a divider so it can be used separately or as one bit drawer. That will be my pick when I need to replace.
I think most people who say they're useless and regret buying them viewed them as a deep fat fryer replacement and/or bought cheap.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/09/2023 13:33

Like the pp above, I love cooking a whole chicken in mine. It's brilliant for roasted vegetables and pizza, too.

octopusrus · 30/09/2023 17:45

Can you cook a whole chicken in the Ninja 2 drawers one? I assumed it would be too big? Or do you split it?

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 30/09/2023 17:48

Just got one, roast chicken and baked potatoes done in under an hour. Kids (teenagers who don’t often offer opinions) say it was delicious. Have used it for every meal since we got it, I think it will take a bit of experimentation to get things right.

trickyex · 30/09/2023 18:01

Can any of you recommend a particular model? Am also looking into getting one.

cherrypied · 30/09/2023 18:08

I have the ninja max 2 drawer.

Can do a roast chicken as long as its under 1.8kg

Love it - use it instead of oven for most things.

TheDuchessOfMN · 30/09/2023 18:10

How long does it take to do the chicken? @cherrypied

cherrypied · 30/09/2023 18:23

1 hour start breast down for 40 mins then 20 right way up. We alway use a thermapen to check its cooked

hartof · 30/09/2023 18:28

Definitely! Mine (tower dual vortx) is getting replaced as the drawers have become faulty so I can't use it at the moment and I miss it so much. I haven't cooked a whole chicken in it ( if I'm doing a roast I use the oven) but it's very versatile and has cut our oven use right down.

There's a new Ninja that has the dual drawer but can be opened up into one big drawer, if I was buying a new one I'd get that

EmotionalSupportWyrm · 30/09/2023 18:51

Worth every penny! Roast veg in 20 mins.

I now use it for toasting bread too - great for those loaves that are the wrong shape for a conventional toaster which expects a slice of shop bought white. The fast fry/cook option is great for that.

I've also baked a cake in it successfully

ApplesinmyPocket · 30/09/2023 19:12

I have hardly used my oven since getting my airfryer. I unreservedly recommend it, and I was very resistant to getting one despite my daughter and SIL's telling me how good they are, and they were right. They are just brilliant.

They have replaced not just my oven and my deep-fat fryer, but also my frying pan, as they are also good for sausages and so on. And toast! I like my toast crisp and crunchy and it comes out like Melba Toast from the airfryer.

I bought another (larger one) after a few weeks so now I have two sitting side by side and sometimes both are in use :)

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 01/10/2023 08:19

Our toaster takes up a lot of space on the side. Happy to hear we might be able to get rid of it.

AnythingBUTnursing · 01/10/2023 08:41

Husband thinks a tower one is better as it is apparently cheaper. I'm more into you get what you pay for. Is it worth trying to convince him we spend more?

We had a tower one at one point, complete rubbish compared to the two drawer ninja

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 01/10/2023 08:56

Already planning how we can use it at Christmas

spartanrunnergirl · 01/10/2023 09:09

Such a useful thread, I'm looking at the ninja too...

Questions:
What's the noise level like?
Smell level?
How easy are the drawers/pans (not sure of the lingo!) to clean?
Does it put out lots of greasy steam from the cooking?

Thank you

AnythingBUTnursing · 01/10/2023 09:27

Sooooo, ordered the ninja 9.5L dual smart probe one. Roll on delivery man 😋

Me too!! 😁 christmas here we come

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 01/10/2023 09:29

What's the noise level like? Like the fan on a laptop
Smell level? Cooking smell towards the end but very low level
How easy are the drawers/pans (not sure of the lingo!) to clean? Piece of cake, take them out, you can put them in the dishwasher but I hand wash and it takes seconds
Does it put out lots of greasy steam from the cooking? Not at all

LadyEloise1 · 01/10/2023 09:30

I have a Ninja Dual 300 one.
It's noisy.
There's no visible steam.
It sometimes sets my fire alarm off. There's no smell.
I use silicone basket inserts for mine so don't have to wash the drawers themselves.

Would I buy an air fryer again if it broke down.
Yes.
But I wouldn't race out to replace it like I would if my vacuum cleaner broke down.
