Meals your kids rave about

Thought I would start a thread about meals your kids have found lip smacking. It's rare mine say wow that's delicious. This really isn't a place to comment on the health of food, it's just light hearted and we might get some new ideas. My disclaimer however is my daughter eats a ton of peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, carrot and avocado etc alongside most meals. Phew.

Today, crumpet with crab pate (I’m due a shopping trip….) went down surprisingly well with my 3yo

Smoked Frankfurter Fusilli
I made this tonight at my daughter's insistence. It was a first for me, I love a hot dog, but pasta, red pesto, franks and cheese was an absolute winner! Who knew.

Oh yum, I'm stealing that straight off the bat. Where was the pate from?

My 4yr old DS is fussy but a wannabe pescatarian and two of his 'safe' meals (he'll always tuck in happily) are fish and chips, and tuna pasta bake.

Rice Krispie chicken - Lisa Falkener recipe. Dip the chicken strips in mayonnaise, then coat in crushed Rice Krispies and bake. Everybody loves it. So succulent.

DsTTy · 27/09/2023 19:17

Jacket potato, cheese and beans is always a winner.

Sounds like a good one to get the kids involved in 👍

Mine love homemade chicken fried rice. Basically a mix of chicken breast pieces, rice, soy sauce and beaten egg all cooked in a hot pan. Any and all veggies added but they like it less then 🤔

Its5656 · 27/09/2023 19:27

Bake feta cheese and cherry tomatoes in the oven for 20 minutes mush together and then mix in cooked pasta. Serve with Garlic bread or sausage meatballs.
My step daughter loves it and I make it every time she's with us.

I love egg fried rice but never attempted it. Is there a trick to it?

My two dc always loved roasted veg (peppers, cherry toms, red onion, garlic, aubergine) on steamed cous cous and either fried halloumi or meat balls or roasted chicken thighs.

Also - eggy bread and beans.

Fish fingers, chips and peas.

M&S beef ravioli in a home made tomato and basil sauce.

Pasta with bacon, peas, creme fraiche.

Roast chicken dinner.

Spag bol.

Cauliflower cheese.

BoilingHotand50something · 27/09/2023 19:38

Mine have always loved a fruity curry made with korma and ginger seasoning, with pineapple chunks, raisins and a coconut milk sauce. I have made it so many times on auto pilot but could dig out the recipe if you want?

TomatoSandwiches · 27/09/2023 19:38

DD had French toast for dinner today, she loves breakfast foods the most so if we have something she's not fond of she has things like that.

coxesorangepippin · 27/09/2023 19:39

Sausages
Pies
Pasta
Beige and chips
Fried Rice
Burgers, hotdogs
Chicken stock soup

They also love courgette muffins, banana bread.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 27/09/2023 19:40

Pasta and pesto. All the time.

SabrinaThwaite · 27/09/2023 19:41

Build your own wraps - spicy chicken, salsa, rice, guacamole, sour cream and grated cheese.

I'd happily eat all of those. How old are your kids?

If given the choice DD (9yo) would have pasta with butter and cheese every day for dinner.

Yes please. She loves a korma, but we're not very adventurous with it.

Mine love fried rice of any description. Chicken, prawn, beef, ham, pork, whatever works fine. You can put loads of veg in. I often do onion, carrot, celery, pepper, mange tout and shiitake mushroom (all finely diced).

DS3 (who is 3) will eat just about anything if it’s diced and in fried rice. my 14 year old regularly makes himself fried rice for breakfast!

@Fallingthroughclouds its really easy to make. If you haven’t got cold leftover rice, you can use microwaveable rice instead.

I cook my meat and veg in a wok and then set aside. Then I scramble some eggs in the wok before adding in my rice. Once the rice is all broken up, I add back my meat and veg and a bit of tamari (GF alternative to soy sauce). Finish with some chopped spring onion and serve.

It is always a hit.

All the usual offerings (spag Bol, lasagne, chicken stew and dumplings, chicken pie, salmon and jackets etc)

My 12yo has discovered a real liking for teriyaki recently, so I’ve been making teriyaki salmon skewers with edamame and egg fried rice. Super simple - chop salmon into chucks and marinade in teriyaki sauce, thread onto skewers (I chop in half to make mini skewers) and pan fry till done. Rice I do with frozen shelled edamame, maybe corn and peas if we have, with an egg or two mixed in and some soy sauce. Done. Quick and simple, but sounds a bit fancy.

Greentomatoes21 · 27/09/2023 19:53

Fried rice recipe below is basically mine. Make sure pan is nice and hot and let the egg sit a bit so you get nice little pieces through the rice. So good!

IncomingTraffic · 27/09/2023 19:53

Mine also love gnocchi with a tomato and veg sauce. Usually the veg is onions and peppers. Sometimes I Chuck some cream cheese in with the sauce. They happily eat it either way.

Other things that go down well are teriyaki chicken or beef, chicken with honey garlic sauce, Cuban pork (marinaded in garlic, oregano and a mix of orange and lime juice) with black beans.

DS3 adores lentil soup. And Dahl, which is basically lentil soup. 🤣

Oh wow, I never thought of teriyaki skewers. I know it's not the same but my wee one loves sushi. I think this would translate!
