How do you cook corn on the cob?

I'm so hit and miss with this. I've boiled it, microwaved it, airfryered it and oven roasted it. Sometimes it's delicious, sometimes it's just not.

Do you have a foolproof way?

Can anyone tell me which supermarkets sell them still in their husk?

LardoBurrows · 03/09/2023 15:12

I cook mine in my instant pot, on the steamer setting, and it is always delicious, but I now always buy Sainsbury's frozen super sweet corn cobs and I think this may be part of the reason the corn tastes so consistently sweet and juicy.

On the BBQ. It's absolutely amazing. Just put us straight on there. Also look up corn ribs!

Bbq it until almost burnt. Sprinkle with salt. Mmmmm

@LardoBurrows I hadn't thought of frozen ones but I'll give them a try. I usually shop in Sainsbury's so will have a look

Bought today from Sainsbo

Cooking them in the husk is great - no waste or cost of foil, it keeps in the flavour perfectly and the husk all comes off so much easier once it's cooked. But freshness is absolutely key - the longer it has been since harvest the more it will taste mealy. Fresh from the garden sweetcorn is an absolute revelation.

Steam the life out of them. Sometimes done in 10 but not always, I tend to do them for 15-20, they don’t seem to overcook!

I roast over job or bbq.
Cut a lime, dip lime in chilli and salt mix and rub into corn.
Boiled I find it a little bland and pulpy.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/09/2023 20:42

Best bets for perfect, sweet and tender corn are to either pick it straight off the plant or take it straight out of the freezer.

Most supermarket corn is old and disappointing.

Ideal world would be straight off the plant, plunged into cold water then into a clay oven, add chilli and sea salt butter when you open the leaves.

Cadburysucks · 03/09/2023 20:43

I tried the microwave method after googling, 7 min for 2 in their husks. Came out lovely served with salt pepper and butter.

Well I actually forgot them! 🤦🏻‍♀️. So a last minute boil for about 7 minutes, then bunged them in the oven with a tray of hasslebacks and they weren't bad!

Will def be trying some of your tips, thank you.
