How can I make greek yogurt taste like the ones you get in fruit yogurt

The ones where you get a section of plain yogurt, and then the fruit (or granola) at the bottom/separated like oykos etc? It is apparently greek yogurt, but it’s not as sour as plain greek yogurt. I’ve tried sweetening with sugar, fruit etc but it still tastes like sour milk with a hint of sugar. When I buy them as fruit yogurts the yogurt has more of a milky/creamy taste.

I tried buying plain activia yogurt, thinking it would taste the same as their ‘delicious creamy’ ones but nope, still sour.

It would be so much cheaper if I could buy a big tub, and add my own berries/granola whatever but the taste is not as nice. It’s one of the only things I can stomach for breakfast.

Any ideas?

Onken plain is not sour. I personally don't like it for that reason

FinallyPeakedNow · 23/08/2023 17:11

Oh if you buy ones that are 'vanilla' they are usually what you want I reckon. All sugary blurgh

Lilithlogic · 23/08/2023 17:12

Make your own, so easy and gorgeous

Lemonademoney · 23/08/2023 17:23

I usually put some honey with my Greek yoghurt then add granola and fruit. Delicious

PureBlackVoid · 23/08/2023 17:23

I’ve tried vanilla ones, but they can be too sweet once you add fruit and stuff. The oykos yogurt isn’t sweet or sour, it’s like a plain but ‘refreshing’ taste.

Don’t think I’ve tried plain onken, but I have tried their flavoured ones which I wasn’t keen on.

Actimel is another taste I like. It has a hint of yogurtness without the sour milk taste.

Bit of honey drizzled ?
I buy Tesco finest zero fat Greek yogurt ..I don't find it sour

MansfieldLark · 23/08/2023 17:29

M&s 10% fat. Amazing stuff

Yeah not this one specifically but I was going to say not the low/no fat ones.

MovingRightAlong · 23/08/2023 17:33

try mixing in some double cream.

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 23/08/2023 17:36

Proper Greek yoghurt (not “Greek style”) is what you need.

I buy it from Aldi and mix the 0% with the 10% in varying proportions depending on how virtuous I want to feel. The big supermarkets do similar ranges, and Fage is the branded variety. They are all in the squat pots, rather than the taller thinner ones.

It’s not sour at all and much nicer than the processed stuff you get in fruit corners.

CobraChicken · 23/08/2023 17:36

Try any of the full fat (10%) options, not low fat ones. Still "sour" but the extra creaminess mellows it out.

LylaLee · 23/08/2023 17:38

Drop of vanilla essence. Honey.

quirkychick · 23/08/2023 17:38

I was also going to say Fage greek yoghurt. Greek Style won't be the same, nor low fat.

SocialHistoryStereotypes · 23/08/2023 17:39

Have you tried Fage authentic Greek yogurt? It’s so sweet to me I can’t eat it.
The Tesco finest full fat authentic Greek yogurt isn’t at all sour to me.

Are you buying authentic Greek yogurt or Greek style yogurts?

Pebblepaint · 23/08/2023 17:40

Most of those are.not plain, they've got loads of sugar in.

Lidl Greek yogurt is the way to go.

AdaColeman · 23/08/2023 17:43

Not all Greek yoghurt is made in the same way. Real Greek yoghurt is strained, which makes it thick with a high fat content.

But Greek style yoghurt has had a variety of thickeners added to it to give it a thicker consistency. This might be why you like the taste of some, but not others.
Figure out if you like Greek or Greek style best, then start adding fruit to your favourite type.

pancakesunday · 23/08/2023 17:48

Not Greek yoghurt but SKYR or Fage is what you need. I also found natural yoghurt really sour but I started having one of those two yoghurts with granola and berries and it's lovely

Glovesandscarf · 23/08/2023 17:50

Try Lidls Greek style it has added cream iirc & may be what you’re looking for. Of course it may have changed since I last had it. Add a little vanilla essence/extract & you might get something like

MovingRightAlong · 23/08/2023 17:51

Fage plus double cream is exactly what you need.

tootrueblue · 23/08/2023 17:52

Agave nectar.

Defiantlynot41 · 23/08/2023 17:56

Greek (not Greek style) yoghurt with 10% fat as pp have said

Waitrose No1 is the Best, M&S is OK and Fage 10% is great but hard to find

TheDogsMother · 23/08/2023 17:57

Yeo Valley Super Thick Greek style. It's mild in taste, lovely and thick created by a completely natural process. They also do a 5% one.

GingerIsBest · 23/08/2023 18:33

Agree with avoiding the low fat ones. If you want creamy, you need the fat. Also, I'm not convinced that the fruit in those pre-done pots isn't full of extra sugar so that might impact things. I can't eat plain greek yoghurt without a generous amount of honey but Dh and the DC do - with fruits and nuts and a bit of cinnamon sometimes.

Tiddlywinks63 · 23/08/2023 18:44

Try Skyr, I prefer it to Fage.

YouHoooo · 23/08/2023 18:46

We’ve stopped buying Oiykos because it’s more than 10% added sugar. That’s not from the strawberries, that’s just a tonne of added sugar.

So it you’re looking to replicate that… icing sugar to make it smooth?
