What is similar in heat to a Korma?

Finally, at the age of 35, managed to get my "hate anything spicy" daughter to try a Korma curry a few weeks ago.

Who'd've thought it - she liked it! And is now keen to try other, mild, curries.

We are generally more of the Rogan Josh / Madras level of curry, so don't really eat the milder ones.

What is similar in heat to a Korma, that we could get her to try next? (Cooking at home, so can't ask the takeaway/restaurant what they would suggest.)

Pasanda!

Tikka Masala

TeamSleep · 20/08/2023 18:46

A passanda is lovely. Not sure if that’s the right spelling. She’ll probably like chicken tikka masala too.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 20/08/2023 18:47

Butter chicken definitely

Aposterhasnoname · 20/08/2023 18:47

Was just coming to say passandra or butter chicken.

CrapBucket · 20/08/2023 18:47

Chicken tikka sagwala is mild but tasty

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 20/08/2023 18:49

Butter chicken
Passanda
Some tikka massalas don't really have much more spice than a korma
Makhani (sometimes)

thecatinthetwat · 20/08/2023 18:51

anything masala is lovely and similar to korma.

KMA2023 · 20/08/2023 18:52

Agree with pasanda and butter chicken.
Also love a makhani which some restaurants call a butter chicken anyway.

Biriyani

There's a lovely one, annoyingly can't remember the name. It's the same colour as korma but it has pineapple in it so it's quite sweet. Not spicy at all. But it's lovely!!!!

My 9yo loves korma and has just been converted to tikka masala. He won’t have anything else vaguely ‘spicy’ either. Try tikka!

These curries are similar to korma, in that they are creamy and mild, and in the case of the fig curry has an amount of sweetness, but are still both delicious. I'm sure you could leave the chilli powder out of entirely of both of them.
Pistachio chicken curry
Chicken and fig curry

I love a korma, and also passanda and there are fruit ones too which are like korma with fruit added.

In Thai like a massaman or mild yellow curry.

Chasni is another one she could try.

Silkiebunny · 20/08/2023 23:21

Yes it's lovely though we just get it from the Indian / Bangladesh takeaway not sure how they make it but is quite like a korma with fruit in taste.

BlackForestCake · 20/08/2023 23:50

If you're cooking at home I don't see the problem, just put less chilli into the dish.

Yellowcakestand · 21/08/2023 00:03

My fave is chicken tikka passanda. Peshwari naan, coconut rice & mango chutney. All the sweet stuff!

Malaya - just like a korma but a bit sweeter as it has pineapple in it - I really like spicy food, but sometimes, I just fancy a malaya!

Passanda! The one my local curry house does tastes divine.

Butter in Hindi is makhan.
