Slouchy · 27/02/2008 16:04

Ok, I did one recently on here..will find the thread..

Slouchy · 27/02/2008 16:07

OK, my recipe.

Chop onions finely, fry gently in a little olive oil. Add chopped garlic (Schwartz do a dried version of this which is fine to use). Brown your mince, add tin of chopped toms, splash red wine (Optional), splash worc sauce, good sprinkling of mixed herbs, another of dried basil. You can put a bay leaf or two in, and/or sprig of thyme.Simmer for a while (15-20 mions?) until liquid is reduced but not all gone.

Meanwhile make the sauce. You need about a dessert spoon of butter and 2ish heaped spoons plain flour. Melt butter, add flour and mix together. You are aiming for a doughball consistency. When you get that, cook the ball (called ROUX) for a couple of mins in the pan until it goes paler, then add a good splash of milk. Bring it to the boil, stirring often - the fat melts and the flour is absorbed. Keep doing this until the sacuse is the consistency of cream, then add a couple of handfuls grated cheese (cheddar works fine) and about 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.

Layer your lasag, pour sauce on top. Into over at 190ish for about 20-25 mins, then add lots more grated cheese on top. Cok for another 10ish mins.

chop an onion, brown off with garlic, then brown mince, then turn down heat a bit and add tin of chopped tomatoes, squirt of tomato puree, some basil, mixed herbs and oregano plus black pepper, and sliced mushrooms (or whatever you fancy), then simmer for a bit.

Get some ready made bechamel sauce.

Put layer of mincy stuff then layer of pasta then layer of sauce twice over, then grated cheese on top. Cook for approx 30 mins. Allow to cool. Freeze.

Probably not remotely authentic but that's what I do and it always goes down v well.

thanks slouchy- I will update you with the verdict (kids will be the worst/best critics) later

I do a gorgeous, cheating version which the whole family seem to love.

Fry up some onions, mushrooms, add the mince and brown. Drain. Chuck in a jar of Bertolli garlic pasta sauce and a tin of tomatoes, maybe a squeeze of sundried tomato puree. Leave to bubble away for half an hour or so. Depending on consistency you may wish to add some gravy granules or cornlflour to thicken slightly.

Put a layer in a rectangular dish, add a layer of lasagne, repeat 3 times. Smooth over a few dollops of a supermarket fresh cheese sauce and then sprinkle with grated cheese.

Bung in the oven for about 40 minutes until brown and gorgeous. Serve with garlic bread and green salad.

God, I'm hungry now.

nailpolish · 27/02/2008 16:11

sandyballs · 27/02/2008 16:15

Haven't frozen it, but have left it in the fridge for a couple of days before cooking and it was even nicer than usual.

Can't think why you couldn't freeze it really.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 27/02/2008 16:15

I cook the mince with onions, tomatoes and mushrroms.

Make a white sauce.

Layer a dish with -

Hey, hey, all you people who are using readymade bechamel/cheese sauces..look at how easy it is to make! Takes 5 mins, costs peanuts and has no added shite. I really recommend you do it.

(Says Slouchy who has recently started buying readymade mash )

nailpolish · 27/02/2008 16:21

i woudnt dream of buying ready made sauce slouch

Slouchy · 27/02/2008 16:22

Sooo pleased to hear it, naily

flowerybeanbag · 27/02/2008 16:23

I would never buy readymade mash, look how easy it is to boil your own tatoes then go at them with a masher and some cream.
