Healthy quick breakfast

Hello!

I’m looking for healthy breakfasts that are quick and easy to make but are nut and cheese free and I’m at a loss. I usually eat porridge but it gets boring quick and it takes up time, if I’m in a rush it’s weetabix but again it’s so dull and I don’t find weetabix very filling. I try to avoid bread so the only other thing I do is make up some scrambled eggs but occasionally they make me feel Ill so I’ve been avoiding eggs recently too.

I’m not very adventurous with food, I only eat because I have to so I really come up blank trying to think of anything interesting.

I was going to say avocado toast but then I saw no bread.

How about a thick protein smoothie with banana, flaxseed, protein powder, chai spice, something really thick to get yiu through the morning.

Or a protein bar? Kind of pricey but I love how they fill you up.

Sometimes I cook up some bulgur wheat with coriander and cumin but that might not be to your taste.

Overnight oats? A quicker version of porridge. You can get it ready the night before and just add fresh fruit in the morning.

Although I appreciate that porridge every morning does get boring!

I tried that the over day as I thought it would be perfect but it’s not for me unfortunately, I do know I am much fussier than most people when it comes to food which doesn’t help me at all.

Protein shakes is a good call thank you I didn’t think of that! I’ve yet to find an affordable nut free protein bar but I’ll definitely get in some bananas and protein shakes as that will be perfect, especially if I’m in a rush!

What recipe did you use op? They can be amazing if you find the right recipe.

I often Chuck a big dollop of Greek yoghurt in a bowl with a handful of frozen mixed berries/summer fruits and then leave in the fridge overnight for the berries to defrost. They go nice and smushy, so really great mixed in the yoghurt. I’ll sometimes add some ground flaxseed to it. If I do that I’ll also add a splash of water so it doesn’t get too dry.

I also usually have some hard boiled eggs, or egg Mayo in the fridge for a quick grab and go option. Or some left overs from dinner the night before.

WitchLady · 04/08/2023 13:30

Eggs!

MinnieMountain · 04/08/2023 13:33

OP only said cheese free.
I have Greek yogurt with frozen berries and sunflower seeds.

GolgafrinchamB · 04/08/2023 13:35

A smoothie with greek yogurt and a handful of oats keeps me going much longer than a regular fruit only smoothie, so that might help.

MustardCress · 04/08/2023 13:35

Would it suit you to just eat your usual lunch or dinner food but for breakfast?

I think if one has lots of dietary challenges then sometimes it’s too much too also be limited to what’s considered ‘normal’ for breakfast or dinner time. So perhaps left overs, some vegetables or salad even? Sometimes it’s better to eat a small portion of something you like.

cocksstrideintheevening · 04/08/2023 13:36

I just skip it

No I said nuts as well as I’m allergic to them, jotting down all the ideas I can though and seeing what substitutes might work

@MustardCress I think I might have to, I definitely can’t skip breakfast, I’m starting a new job and there’s no real lunch break so for my lunch I’m taking quick easy snacks but thought I’d I eat a better breakfast I’ll be full for longer but I won’t have a lot of time in the morning to make up something if it’s too time consuming

Hope that works for you OP.

I just can’t eat cereal for breakfast but I do like it occasionally in the evening.

Savoury breakfasts suit me the best so that’s usually something on toast. Nothing wrong with some left over stir fry or even some mashed potato even!

Maybe you could try potato cakes or rostis, or some bean burgers or falafel if you like them? Perhaps cook in one batch then eat cold for breakfast or quickly reheat under the grill or microwave.

We do have a few meals they we often have left overs from, DH usually packs them to take to work for lunch but I can use them for my breakfast instead. It might be the easiest solution, thanks so much! :)

Why don't you make batches of your own granola. Basically toasting oats with some vegetable oil and maple syrup, plus a little salt. Then you will be sure what's in it. Plenty of recipes online.
You can chop a small banana into it one day, then maybe some chopped dried apricots the next.

It's very nice and because the oats are toasted they don't take an age to chew!
It's filling so you only need a small bowl.

SleepWouldBeADream · 04/08/2023 15:38

Baked oats with fruit & seeds, banana or carrot oaty sultans muffins, blueberry pancakes - all can be made at the weekend and a portion taken out the night before.

Susuwatariandkodama · 04/08/2023 16:42

I didn’t even know granola was oats, I’ve never tried it before so I’ve made up a batch and waiting for it to bake now! Thank you

Kdubs1981 · 04/08/2023 16:54

Overnight oats?

Georgyporky · 04/08/2023 18:11

Bacon takes 2 minutes in a mw. Eggs, but not scrambled?
