Can anyone share their overnight oats recipe?

I’ve never made them before but as I’ve got all the ingredients (I think) I thought I’d give it a whirl.

I’m trying to focus on eating better so hopefully having it ready and waiting tomorrow will stop me eating rubbish.

I’ve got oats, yoghurt, milk, strawberries, frozen mixed berries, apples… maybe some other bits & bobs

I use a couple of cups of oats
a big heaping cup of fat free yoghurt
good drizzle of honey and teaspoon of cinnamon
some almond milk and then leave overnight
i the serve with fruit in the morning and add a teaspoon of peanut butter

This will last for a few portions - it’s super filling once you’ve added fruit

Jam jar, 1/2 cup of oats, chia seeds, spoonful of peanut butter, drizzle of honey, cover with milk of choice, stir, top with frozen berries.

Those who do overnight oats can you heat them up in the morning? Eg a blast in the microwave?

No you eat cold because they soften overnight...cooking is for softening.

Carrot Cake Overnight Oars are lovely

Does anything really soften though? Every time I've tried it's basically hard chewing raw ingredients. I prefer a homemade museli where you're expecting a good cronch.

LauraPausini · 20/06/2023 19:38

We add a dash of apple juice to ours - delicious!

I bake my recipe in winter so it’s warm but do that on the day
soaking makes everything soft so I think heating would make everything mushy

Thanks, I always find making actual porridge in the morning just takes too long. I don't like cold things straight from the fridge either though so I'll stick to toast.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 20/06/2023 19:42

30g of osts
I add 2 sugar free muller light vanilla yoghurts
Mix
Add fruit in the morning

AnnaMagnani · 20/06/2023 19:46

Mine is scarely a recipe.

4 tablespoons of oats. Add milk to cover.
Leave in fridge overnight.

Eat with toppings. As I am v much in the CBA school of breakfasts this is usually a drizzle of honey, sometimes tahini as well.

MarmiteWine · 20/06/2023 19:47

120g Full-fat Greek yoghurt, thinned with a little water/milk if necessary, and 35-40g rolled oats, mixed together. I also stir in a good heaped teaspoon of milled flaxseed or ground nuts etc

Add 120g of frozen berries on top, don't stir, and leave in fridge for berries to defrost overnight. Stir through before serving, and serve with a sprinkling of flaked almonds.

It's deliciously thick and creamy prepared this way!

Season0fTheWitch · 20/06/2023 19:53

1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup yoghurt- I use a protein salted caramel one, but any work.
Splash of milk (maybe 2tbsp, more if you add lots of nuts and seeds)

Then, in the morning add toppings:
Pecans
Peanut/Almond butter
Pumpkin seeds
chocolate chips
nutella
dried fruit
drizzle of honey/maple syrup
banana slices

Baldieheid · 20/06/2023 19:53

I microwave my porridge as I loathe the cold wallpaper paste I somehow manage to produce, no matter which recipe I try.

30g oats, milk, whack on high for 2 min, stir then in again for another min. Top with fruit, jam, peanut butter, banana, yogurt, etc (one or 2, not the whole lot lol)

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 20/06/2023 20:11

I sometimes swap oats for quinoa. Delicious!

100g or cooked quinoa
60ml almond milk
40g berries or peach
30g Bulk whey isolate protein powder
c75ml water
Spice of your choice - cinnamon or cardamom
1g nut butter

Scrunchymum · 20/06/2023 20:16

I do about 50g oats
add in milk and a few spoons of Greek yogurt, mix up well.
then I add chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, a little cinnamon, chopped dates & a good blob of Nutella.
I add frozen raspberries and a few fresh strawberries in the morning (I don’t like when the fruit goes mushy overnight)

I eat this a few times a week and it fills me up till lunch.

TrobadoraBeatrice · 20/06/2023 20:22

Minimal recipe which I used to do for DDs when they were younger:
Roughly equal quantities of porridge oats and grated apple, cover with apple juice and leave overnight. Serve with a dollop of Greek yogurt (and honey if necessary, though it should be quite sweet already).

Nannyfannybanny · 20/06/2023 20:29

50g porridge oats, heaped tablespoon Greek yogurt with honey, 50mls soya milk,. 50g berries, fruit, fresh or frozen. I usually top with linseed. Good to go. I use the grandkids drinks jam jars. In the morning, the oats are so thick and creamy.

Raison & Banana Overnight Oats

Oats 60g
Raisons x 1/2 table spoon
Banana, sliced 1/3rd to a 1/4
Semi-skimmed milk x 200g
Powdered flax seed x 1/3 tsp

Mix dry ingredients, add banana slices then place in a clip lock jar, add milk and shake like mad. Bung it in your fridge and its ready for breakfast in the morning.

I weigh my ingredients for my insulin doses.

Love this for my breakfast!😁

mrsblueskyeye · 20/06/2023 20:49

Frozen mango on bottom, layer of oats, extra thick yoghurt. Then in the morning a drizzle of milk to make the yoghurt a bit runnier.

I do - even 20secs takes the chill off, but doesn't turn it into porridge

darkmodeon · 20/06/2023 20:51

I use 50g oats to 200ml of whatever milk it is. I usually use oat milk. A drizzle of honey and some frozen berries on top.

ScottishBeth · 20/06/2023 20:56

1/2 cup of oats
1/2 cup milk
Half tbsp peanut butter
Half tbsp maple syrup
Small drizzle vanilla essence

Next morning add a banana and I like some more milk. Filling and delicious.

Thanks, I always find making actual porridge in the morning just takes too long. I don't like cold things straight from the fridge either though so I'll stick to toast.

I microwave my overnight oats and have never found them mushy. On Sunday nights I make up a week's worth of dry ingredients - steel cut oats (as less processed), a mixture of nuts and seeds and cinnamon in separate microwaveable pots. The night before, I add unsweetened almond milk and frozen fruit if not using fresh. In the morning, I give it a stir, microwave it for about 40 secs and then top with Greek yogurt, a dollop of Kefir and fruit (if not using frozen). I vary the nuts and seeds and fruit and use both yogurt and kefir to promote good gut health. I eat my oats cold only when it's really hot weather or I'm in a rush and taking them with me to eat later.
