I’ve never made them before but as I’ve got all the ingredients (I think) I thought I’d give it a whirl.

I’m trying to focus on eating better so hopefully having it ready and waiting tomorrow will stop me eating rubbish.

I’ve got oats, yoghurt, milk, strawberries, frozen mixed berries, apples… maybe some other bits & bobs

Posting to keep the thread as I've been wanting to try these for a while 🙂

I loathe porridge. It’s the food of the devil. But I ADORE overnight oats. It’s a breakfast staple in our house and I often take it to work for a quick, filling and nutritious lunch as I often only have a short time.

I mix plant based yoghurt (I can’t have much dairy) Greek yoghurt (for the kids) or quark with oats, chia seeds, ground flax and a splash of plant / dairy milk. Then it’s any combo of frozen or dried fruit that I have knocking around. It’s amazing!

Love the look of the carrot cake one! That’ll def be on the menu next week

I eat them everyday but never leave them overnight. I only ever use jumbo oats and mix 4 soup spoons of jumbo oats with a chopped dried date, chopped dried apricot, coconut flakes and pumpkin seeds. Then add Greek yoghurt (preferably the Lidl one) and soya milk to get a good consistency. Finally top with a chopped apple, pear or banana. If I'm taking it to work I mix it all in the morning bar the chopped fresh fruit. If I'm at home I just make it and eat it.

Some of these sound nice. I just eat raw oats with a few seeds and milk, don't soak or cook.

Oats, milk, half a teaspoon of golden linseed and sugar to soak overnight.
Add dollop of plain yoghurt in the morning.
Top with banana / raspberries / blueberries / strawberries.

I've recently discovered these and experimented with different milks and yoghurt (which I'm not keen on in porridge), these are my fav recipes:

40g oats
150ml almond milk
1tbsp cocoa powder
1tbsp runny honey
Add blueberries in the morn
Add cocoa nibs for added crunch (optional)

40g oats
150ml almond milk
1tbsp peanut butter
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Add chopped banana in the morn

Oh some of these sound absolutely delicious!
You’re all so healthy too, given me some great ideas, thank you 😊

I’m lazy so I throw some oats in a bowl with milk. Place in fridge. In the morning I add a mashed banana, yoghurt and cinnamon.it’s for my 6 year old so also a drizzle of honey. Or we put frozen berries in night before and omit the cinnamon. Or jam 😂 I never measure anything just throw it in, the baby eats it to without the honey and the 4 yr old has the oats made into porridge because he can’t possibly eat the same breakfast as other two😂 oh and for added goodness you get bags of ground nuts/seeds you can sprinkle in or on!

Thanks, I always find making actual porridge in the morning just takes too long. I don't like cold things straight from the fridge either though so I'll stick to toast.

I do porridge in the microwave.

2 1/2 minutes to cook, quick stir then leave for a minute or two to set and cool.

You can get microwaveable porridge bowls with a vented lid so no risk of splattering.

Mine no longer contain oats, since wearing a continuous glucose monitor and seeing the huge spike in blood sugar that they cause me.
So Greek yoghurt, berries, chia seeds, mix of other seeds. Left overnight the chia softens to a similar consistency but no blood sugar spike

Workyticket · 20/06/2023 22:15

Just made mine to take to work. Nothing exciting, just oats and semi skimmed milk

In the morning I'll add honey and seeds. I eat it at work- gives it a chance to not be fridge cold

Inchysaurus · 20/06/2023 22:25

These recipes sound really good. I normally make porridge but will give some of these a try

OhBling · 21/06/2023 11:12

Is the basic premise that fresh fruit/nuts are added the next day? I keep meaning to try this for DS but not sure about whether to add fruit after or before? Eg with frozen fruit, should I place on the bottom so that it all mushes into the oat/milk/yoghurt mixture but add anything I want crunchy (nuts etc) or fresh fruit after?

paulmccartneysbagel · 21/06/2023 12:39

50g oats
80g frozen raspberries
150ml of milk (whichever you prefer)

In the morning I add a spoonful of peanut butter and flaxseed.

Natsku · 21/06/2023 13:09

Used to make overnight oats years ago, I can't remember exact quantities but I think it was roughly one part oats, one part turkish yoghurt, one part milk, chocolate chips then stirred through, then topped with frozen berries.

frostyfours · 22/06/2023 11:38

Thank you for the carrot cake oats recipe OH MY GOD it's amazing 🥹

NeverendingCircus · 22/06/2023 11:40

An ex of mine made a gorgeous one - cup of oats, cup of greek yog, cup of OJ or mango juice, grated apple, chopped nuts. Then next day add fresh berries and sliced banana.

StoneColdAlibi · 22/06/2023 11:52

I do 30g oats, 15g chia seeds, 30g protein powder (usually vanilla).
Then either:
Berries, either frozen or fresh
Grated carrot, chopped apple and sultanas

When I eat them I sometimes add Greek yogurt and more chopped fruit

Some great ideas, thank you all so much! 😋
