using up maple syrup - preferably savoury dishes

OMGitsnotgood · 27/05/2023 08:59

We have most of a bottle of maple syrup, bought to go with bacon and pancakes, but rarely make pancakes in the morning these days. Need some ideas to use it up but am trying to avoid desserts and cakes at the moment. I've seen it used in the sauce for ribs and as an addition to chicken marinade. Any other suggestions please? Thank you.

Maple and ancho chilli glazed parsnips are one of my all time favourite side dishes.

Also easy to use up a lot of it as part of a glaze for a big joint of ham, we do this quite often to have sandwich ham in the fridge all the time.

Maple Dijon chicken is delicious too.

I often use it instead of honey making salad dressings and vinaigrettes.

Maple syrup is lovely in chicken and soy recipes

comeundone · 27/05/2023 09:21

I sometimes use in salad dressing or with miso and soy on salmon, it's a good all rounder

Baked Brie with maple syrup and fresh thyme is absolutely delicious.

Bacon and maple syrup scones

It doesn’t go off, why do you need to use it up? Just wait until the next treat breakfast. It’s also nice in Greek yogurt.

Swerving cakes and puddings but potentially pouring a bottle of maple syrup over your veggies for the week sounds counter productive tbh

Agree that it doesn't go off. But I use it with salmon too, this recipe is gorgeous with some stir-fried veg

Wow so many fabulous suggestions, exactly the sort of things i was looking for.

It's a big bottle, we'd have it for years if kept for pancake breakfasts. Will try in Greek yoghurt, thank you.

What a strange comment. Cakes and puddings generally are very high calorie. I can't imagine any recipe calling for more than a tablespoon of maple syrup on a family sized serving of veg and i certainly wouldn't do it all week, just once in a blue moon - as you say it doesn't go off quickly 😜

Glazed ham

CurlewKate · 27/05/2023 09:35

I quite often use a tiny splash to finish a curry- particularly a vegetable one. Good in salad dressings - and in Chinese and Japanese marinades. You'll use it up in no time!

cafecreme · 27/05/2023 09:36

I use MS in a marinade on salmon and also in a peanut/satay sauce which we eat of lots of.

violetscarlet · 27/05/2023 09:43

Put some in when you make chilli. Delicious

HappyHolidai · 27/05/2023 09:52

Rubbing on a pork belly joint when roasted. Hardly a low-calorie option but you can freeze extra portions of the meat and they are amazing in future stir-frys.

mrsfeatherbottom · 27/05/2023 10:01

This is a lovely recipe. Sorry for the weird link but I googled and it was the only one I could find:

I also use maple syrup in a satay stir fry sauce with peanut butter, soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce.

CurlewKate · 27/05/2023 10:56

I have also had a delicious maple and lemon cocktail. May be worth experimenting?

I am currently obsessed with this Ottolenghi salad which uses a fair bit.

More great ideas thanks! Never mind using it up, i think it will become a store cupboard staple!

It’s either Delia or Nigella who has a maple glazed carrots recipe, really lovely.

Also fabulous in a nut roast.

toastofthetown · 27/05/2023 16:18

I love these maple roasted carrots, though I do skip the additional sugar.

I also use maple syrup in this bibimbap recipe as I don’t want to have too many types of syrup in. It’s one of my favourite recipes and really flexible with whichever vegetables you need to use up.
