Something sweet-without an oven

Chocolateisnice · 30/04/2023 01:50

I live in an apartment with a hob, microwave but no oven. I have two toddlers and would love to 'bake' with them. Has anyone got any recipes for something sweet without the use of an oven? Thank you!!

Tiffin?
Microwave mug cake?

Rummikub · 30/04/2023 01:57

Was coming on to say tiffin too.

The only heat needed is to melt the chocolate. My dc enjoyed breaking the digestives.

Denise82 · 30/04/2023 01:57

Cheesecake, trifle, ready made sponge cupcakes you could make icing for and sprinkles to decorate. Banoffie pie.

Weatherwax13 · 30/04/2023 01:57

Look up "refrigerator cakes" no cooking involved but you can use as many ingredients as you like really so there's a lot of opportunity for chopping/mixing.
And the old fashioned rice crispie/cornflake cakes are good for little'uns to do.
See also peppermint creams etc

What is a tiffin? Whenever I have made a microwave cake it has tasted awful 🤮

The one where you melt marshmallows and butter and stir rice crispies through it.

😋

Chocolateisnice · 30/04/2023 01:59

I completely forgot about cornflake cakes!!

Easiest to google Tiffin recipe than try to describe it - but very delicious Grin.

I make tiffin using broken digestives, mini marshmallows and melted chocolate. Mix altogether. Press into tin and chill till set.

Malteaser slice!

greenacrylicpaint · 30/04/2023 09:04

is the microwave a combi thingy?

ours works just like a normal oven, only smaller.

WashAsDelicates · 30/04/2023 09:09

Syrup sponge and chocolate sponge puddings work very well in the microwave, as does pineapple upside-down cake. Any tinned fruit upside-down cake works well in the microwave.

The tricks are to cook them in a glass or china dish no wider than your handspan (7"?), with a steam cover over it, and at no higher than 800w setting. IIRC they take about 7 minutes to cook. Check with a skewer, but not before the view has been obscured by steam. The middle of top of the pudding or cake may still be wet. If you cook until it all looks dry and cake-like, then it is horribly over-done.

Rocky road. My two love it. Lots of mixing and nibbling mini marshmallows, rich tea biscuits, raisins and dried cranberries as you go!)

TroysMammy · 30/04/2023 09:29

Angel Delight 😁

Microwave flap jacks. My DCs used to love them. We bunged in any dried fruit we fancied - apricot, sultanas, glace cherries, raisins, cranberries etc

Wow - I'm in awe that you cope feeding your 2 toddlers without an oven . What meals do you do for them ?

Firsttimecaller · 30/04/2023 10:51

I use this rocky road recipe as a measurement guide/base and will change the flavour profile according to what I have in. E.g:
Winter flavour use dark chocolate, ginger nuts, dried cranberries, pecans
Summer flavour use milk chocolate, shortbread or rich tea, dried tropic mix with coconut
Autumn flavour hobnobs, any chocolate, cinnamon chips, raisins, maple syrup instead of golden.

Welsh cakes are traditionally cooked on a griddle but a frying pan would do the job

I made Mars bar squares today with a toddler and 6 year old. They can break up the Mars bars and chocolate for the top and pour in the Rice Krispies. But the melting part is a bit stressful! I used a mix of white and milk chocolate. Bonus they’re absolutely delicious! Melt the chocolate for the top in 30 second bursts in the microwave and use a big saucepan and pour the Rice Krispies into the saucepan to save on washing up. Also whisk the melted Mars bar and butter really well so it’s smooth.

Microwave meringues.
Sounds like a lot of sugar but it really isn't as it makes loads. Good for children to watch rising too. So, 1 egg white, beaten, then gradually add 5oz (125g) icing sugar. Beat well. Then measure out another 125g and add gradually until all sugar is mixed in. Divide into small walnut sized balls.
Cover dinner plate with kitchen parchment or greaseproof - greased. Then place 6 balls around edge and 1 in the middle. Now, the next bit depends on your microwave power - mine is 800w. So I cook them for up to 2 mins until risen and firm but not burnt. Ten do the rest (obvs) They will keep for weeks in a biscuit tin
