What would you do with a large tub of toasted sesame seeds?

They are amazing but I have ordered a large tub by mistake. I am not looking to use them up in a short space of time but probably within a year. Are there any good recipes out there which anyone can recommend? Thanks

Make tahini perhaps.
Or mix some with flaky salt and dip bread in olive oil then into the sesame salt mix

Make tahini

Or sesame bars/balls, I really like those. I don't have a recipe but if you search sweet sesame bars or similar some come up

Heinzbakedbeans · 27/04/2023 16:12

Put them on the floor

Smother yourself in olive oil

Lay down

😂 Thanks. i will be making tahini as we are big humous eaters but I reckon there will still be a lot left over after that. I love those shop bought sesame snaps but I don't eat hard sugar products anymore. I was hoping to be able to make some of those hard Turkish savory biscuits but I cannot remember what they are called.

Those look nice thanks. The Turkish product I was thinking of is like a crispbread ring. it may be the same thing in a different shape to the one I would recognise.

Coat chicken and bake, mix into rice, sprinkle, on sushi bowls, thick layer on top of salmon and bake with teriyaki sauce, but they may not keep for a year. Once opened the fat in them can go rancid quite quickly.

Gomae salad

More great ideas , thanks!

Regarding the expiry date, online research suggests 1-3 years for toasted seeds. It sounds a bit optimistic. Apparently, it is possible to freeze some. has anybody tried it? I'm still working through a vat of frozen ginger delivered at start of pandemic in 2020. It is far from perfect but serves it's purpose just fine.

Just how much did you buy? 😂😂😂

maslinpan · 27/04/2023 17:19

Simits are lovely, but don't use up as many sesame seeds as you may think.

SiobhanSharpe · 27/04/2023 17:19

A friend coated raw fillets of white fish (cod?) in sesame seed before shallow frying them . They were delicious

1kg I think which doesn't sound like a lot but is volumetrically huge due to their light weight 😂

Tahini, peanut and sesame rayu 🤤🤤

Malloryhitops · 27/04/2023 17:25

I would also be coating everything in them, meat, halloumi etc then air frying

That's interesting. Was there any batter involved - I'm just wondering how it didn't all come off in the fryer?

Make miso soup with veg & tofu and use them as a topping with herbs and sesame oil... Delicious 😋

dudsville · 27/04/2023 17:46

I think keep a decanted amount on the coutner top to remind you t sprinkle them on most things, toast, toast with jam, porrige, everything you would ever have for lunch and dinner. Also, send some to me, I now want a large amount of tasted sesame seeds...

OnMyWayToSenility · 27/04/2023 17:47

If they are toasted already keep a jar in the fridge for adding to Korean dishes
Such as

And manner of lovely Korean easy to make deliciousness

MermaidEyes · 27/04/2023 17:55

Koulouri!!!! Delicious dipped in hummus 😀

They are divine and you need LOADS of sesame seeds

Those are the ones I mean (though I will not be wading into the debate about whether they are Greek or Turkish!) 😀

Oh, and they look like something out of a food magazine. My baked goods always taste good but never look the part!
