Broad beans are not to my taste at all. May substitute bacon for the beans.

crazeecatlady · 18/04/2023 13:01

Does he know the price of broad beans out of season (imported- air miles etc)
Spinach also not the cheapest veg. I'd change some of the ingredients - then it's not Coronation Quiche is it?!

Binfluencer · 18/04/2023 13:05

No, Charles Windsor's quiche preferences are of no interest to me. But then neither is his party funded by tax payers.

MsFannySqueers · 18/04/2023 13:13

I love a quiche but broad beans and spinach ? It sounds revolting and I would eat spinach or the beans in other dishes. The spinach could be very soggy and tarragon just tastes like burnt rubber to me. I will make a Coronation chicken salad on Coronation day and toast the late Queen may she rest in peace. I am not a fan of Charlie! I wonder if M&S will do their version of the quiche?

Gregorylass · 18/04/2023 13:13

Probably, but without the beans. Substituting bacon is a good idea.

Oh do bore off. It's a thread in food/recipes about a quiche.

ChristineCricket · 18/04/2023 13:22

I think I’ll stick with coronation chicken, maybe mixed with coleslaw and thrown in a wrap.

Cheesecake53 · 18/04/2023 13:25

No.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 18/04/2023 13:25

Nooo. I don’t like broad beans.

I’m planning Coronation Chicken butties. On a nice oven bottom muffin. (Cries for lack of de Clerq muffins).

Felicity Cloake did an article on how to cook this with some sensible sounding suggestions which may be useful for anyone planning to try it;

You can get frozen broad beans in practically every supermarket in the country.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 18/04/2023 14:06

I love broad beans, we always have a bag in the freezer.

Not sure about in a quiche though.

AutumnCrow · 18/04/2023 14:12

I think Charles and his 'team' were trying to look like it was healthy but affordable to the masses, so went with broad beans (a well known peasant food in their minds) rather than asparagus

Lard though

mackthepony · 18/04/2023 14:15

Why would anyone eat that?!

GobbieMaggie · 18/04/2023 15:34

Yes, why not.

Thank you.

I had a look and saw that this isn't behind a paywall.

It's not popular with all.

I cooked the Coronation Quiche and this is what I learnt

Will the royal dish be awarded a starring role in our street’s bank-holiday celebrations? The verdict is in

i'm certainly going to give it a try and enjoy the tv coverage from canada.
however i will buy crust and will most likely substitute lima beans (or white kidney?? should i find broad/fava beans i would hope they would be double peeled already).
but why not, all for a bit of fun on what would certainly be an otherwise quiet day.

pickledandpuzzled · 18/04/2023 17:33

I will make it, we always have broad beans in the freezer. If you haven't had them since childhood, the baby broad beans available now are lovely.

However I can't see it catching on, as Coronation chicken did. Tarragon isn't a favourite of mine.

Spendonsend · 18/04/2023 17:35

I will probably give it a go. I like quiche.

whoateallthecookies · 18/04/2023 17:37

No, because a quiche is a torture device masquerading as a foodstuff.

To be fair, I feel this way about all quiches..... (it's the texture)

BonnieGlasses · 18/04/2023 17:37

No, it sounds disgusting. Broad beans and lard?!!

WashAsDelicates · 18/04/2023 17:39

It sounds OK, but does not excite me not inspire me to make it. A bit dull, really. And lard? In a country full of vegetarians and with a large Muslim population?

I wonder whether Coronation Chicken stirred feelings of "Ew, why are they messing about adding foreign muck to good British chicken? Hmm don't inspire me to try it" in the 50s?

I love Coronation Chicken, and it can be made into a casserole, too, if you want it as a hot meal.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 18/04/2023 17:42

We're planning to make it, but with either a gluten free wrap as the crust, or no crust at all due to various dietary requirements.

We'll also be making (quorn) coronation chicken.

rewilded · 18/04/2023 17:43

Yes!

Skybluepinky · 18/04/2023 17:45

No I hate quiche, hubby likes it but hates beans and spinach.
