School bake sale

susiethecat · 10/03/2023 10:43

Does anyone have any recommendations/recipes for something for me to make for a primary school bake sale? We have been asked to send in homemade cakes next week. What can I do that is not too hard but looks delicious, is child friendly, easy to transport and no nuts? Thanks

Flapjack!

I haven't tried this recipe personally, but it's very similar to the one I use from an old book.

I usually default to chocolate crispy cakes in brightly coloured cake cases..
Pretty sure the baking milk chocolate doesn't contain nuts, then you just add some butter and golden syrup.
They are quick and easy and taste yummy!

Needmorelego · 10/03/2023 10:46

Do they actually want homemade? Is it for a cake sale? If a cake sale shop bought usually sells much better than homemade. Buy one of those 12 cupcake platters that are about £4....sell the cakes for £1 individually.....££££££.

SavBlancTonight · 10/03/2023 10:47

Chocolate chip cookies. Not technically cakes, but easy to sell and always hugely popular with the children.

susiethecat · 10/03/2023 10:48

I think there will be shop bought ones too but they've asked parents to provide homemade. Thanks for the suggestions - I will take a look at these recipes

Do you use rice crispies for these? Or cornflakes?

WandaWonder · 10/03/2023 10:53

Basic buns with icing and a sweet on top

Simple sells best in my experience

winesolveseverything · 10/03/2023 10:57

I use rice crispies but you could use cornflakes if you prefer..

225g milk chocolate
1-2 tablespoons golden syrup
50g butter
50g rice crispies or cornflakes.

Put the chocolate, syrup and butter into a pan and heat very gently until it is all melted and smooth.
Then stir in the crispies.

Makes about 12....
I usually double the recipe so I can keep a few at home!!

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 10/03/2023 11:02

i normally make a few types of fudge and just curious it into cubes and bag it up (bags from Amazon).

If I forget/run out of time Asda do 12 doughnuts for £3sh!

susiethecat · 10/03/2023 11:03

I love fudge but have never made it. Do you have a good recipe?

I use this recipe and add various toppings like mini eggs, chocolate buttons, sprinkles etc.

Baldieheid · 10/03/2023 14:25

I'd make a big batch of plain fairy cakes and ice them in pretty colours, with different things on top. Some with jelly tots, some with sprinkles, some with a mini egg, etc, etc. One batch of sponge mix would probably make 12 and bobs your uncle. They'd go for 50p - £1 each, I expect.

Alternatively a tray bake like chocolate brownies. Cut into decent sized chunks .

Tiffin is always a winner and is easy as requires no baking . Basically just crushed digestives, Maltesers, golden syrup , chocolate , cut up mara bars , raisins or whatever you like all melted together then put in one of those disposable silver foil trays, let harden and cut into squares

Cherryblossom1985 · 10/03/2023 14:51

Top Hats. They're not baked, but easy to make and the kids love them.
Ingredients: Small bun cases, chocolate, marshmallows and smarties or jelly tots.
Melt chocolate and put a thin ish layer in bun case. Add a marshmallow, put a small spot of melted chocolate and attach the smartie/jelly tot.

Fridge cake is so delicious and easy and no baking! You can always emit the raisins / apricots but they do taste better with them in! It also suggests pecans which is obviously a no go but if you ever make it at home the nuts do add another texture.

	250g/8oz <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/digestive_biscuit" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">digestive biscuits</a>
	150g/5oz <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/milk_chocolate" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">milk chocolate</a>
	150g/5oz <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/dark_chocolate" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">dark chocolate</a>
	100g/3&frac12;oz unsalted <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/butter" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">butter</a>
	150g/5oz <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/golden_syrup" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">golden syrup</a>
	100g/3&frac12;oz <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/dried_apricot" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">dried apricots</a>, chopped
	75g/2&frac12;oz <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/raisins" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">raisins</a>

Method
1 Use cling film to line a 20cm (8in) shallow, square-shaped tin. Leave extra cling film hanging over the sides.
2 Bash the biscuits into pieces using a rolling pin. (Put them in a plastic bag first so they don't go everywhere!)
3 Melt chocolate, butter and golden syrup in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir occasionally.
4 Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the broken biscuits, apricots, raisins and pecans (optional).
5 Spoon the mixture into the tin. Level the surface by pressing it down with a potato masher.
6 Leave to cool, then put the chocolate mixture in the fridge for 1-2 hours to set.
7 Turn out the cake and peel off the cling film. Cut the cake into 12 squares and enjoy!

This. No cooking

I make rice crispy cakes with melted mars bars:

3 mars bars (chopped)
3oz butter

Melt them in a saucepan, remove from heat, add 3oz of rice crispies. This time of year, I’d top with a couple of mini eggs each. This recipe makes about 20, depending on how full you fill the cases.

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 10/03/2023 20:25

Chocolate brownies are always a hit.

RoseslnTheHospital · 10/03/2023 20:41

Homemade always sells much better than shop bought at the bake sales for my kids school.

I've learnt over the years to do something fairly simple, and in tray bake form. A basic sponge traybake with colourful icing will sell. Or, chocolate chip muffins, cupcakes or American style cookies are also easy and popular.

Iwantamarshmallowman · 10/03/2023 21:14

Rice crispy tray bake. This one takes about 15 mins... its my go to recipe for bake sales.

Brownies for the win 😁

AtleastitsnotMonday · 10/03/2023 21:54

The best seller at our school cake sale was crispy cakes made with rainbow drops, marshmallows and white chocolate. Super easy.
