Best supermarket own brands you have found, like a lot of people I’m looking to reduce my monthly spend on food shopping, I’ve tried Aldis version of Weetabix, kids didn’t notice the difference at all and they love the cheapest range Asda pizzas albeit we do add a sprinkle of mozzarella on top so what is the best alternative supermarket own brand you use.

Sainsbury’s do good mayonnaise - just as good as Heinz. They’ve also got a peri peri version which is better than the Nando’s one.
Asda own brand hazelnut chocolate spread is a Nutella dupe - my dc don’t notice the difference.

Hohofortherobbers · 03/03/2023 19:08

Sainsburys: ketchup, mayo, tea, readybrek, weetabix, 100% peanut butter, cornflakes, rice krispies, rioja (!),

Steer clear of Aldi pepper sauce, its awful.

Asda washing up liquid, far superior to any other like Fairy. £1 a bottle, for a huge bottle.

lidls thick Greek yogurt is really lovely, as is their whipped fruit corner Greek yogurts.

Asda’s own brand flour, about £1 a bag cheaper than bero and works just fine.

Tesco own brand baked beans 35p
Tesco Neville's bread - made by Warburtons but 39p

Restlessinthenorth · 06/03/2023 22:34

I an absolutely certain Aldi tomato soup is actually Heinz in different packaging. And a quarter of the price

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 06/03/2023 22:51

Aldi's village bakery bread (blue packet) just as nice as warburtons and a fraction of the price.

Aldi's tinned macaroni cheese. Their salad cream is pretty good too although would've tasted better had i looked before lobbing it into the trolley and realising it was the low fat version. Even the Heinz low fat version is ram. I just wish they did a coffee creamer. They perhaps do but our store definitely doesn't sell it

Waitrose essentials baked beans and tomato ketchup. My kids are v premium-brand-loyal but accept these!! And I like their essential tea bags (both ordinary and decaf).

Aldi baked beans. Just as good as heinz. All the aldi cereals are as good as the branded ones.

Izzieloo · 07/03/2023 18:56

I love m and s own tomato sauce better than Heinz .

DahliaMacNamara · 07/03/2023 19:00

We like the Aldi ketchup. M&S ketchup isn't much dearer, and that's nice too, if you prefer it a bit thicker and sweeter.

Aldi Magnum washing up liquid is good too. I buy the premium version, but there's a cheaper one too, in a bigger bottle.

There's a decent range of vegan sweets in Aldi now, too.

ImAvingOops · 07/03/2023 20:06

Aldi Oaties biscuits are much nicer than hobnobs.

Anyone recommend an alternative to Heinz for chicken soup?

Anyone recommend an alternative to Heinz for chicken soup?

I buy M & S chicken soup, 65p a tin. My DP prefers it to Heinz.

There tomato and mushroom soups are also 65p a tin and really good.

Happygirl79 · 08/03/2023 18:54

I buy lidl smart price baked beans and add a squirt of tomato puree to them. Makes them like heinz baked beans

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/03/2023 18:56

M&S soups are better and cheaper than heinz

inspiration101 · 09/03/2023 18:10

Kids loved the asda essential savers frozen curry, i took it out of the packaging & they devoured it asking me to get it it again 😂

Tesco omega 3 fish fingers are very tasty and way cheaper than the branded ones. I decided to try them recently as my dc were having fish finger sandwiches as an after school snack at over €4 for the branded box of ten 🙄. I indulged in a ff sandwich myself and honestly the Tesco ones were lovely. At €1.50 for ten we’ll stick with them!

Ohwonderful · 11/03/2023 11:28

Sainsbury for anything pickled
Beetroot
Gherkin
Jalapeño
Red cabbage
All delish and good value.

User1396390 · 11/03/2023 11:29

Most of Waitrose Essentials are good

inspiration101 · 11/03/2023 15:29
