Different ideas for using up Greek Yoghurt

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/02/2023 19:54

I've acquired a large pot of Greek yoghurt, looking for some new ideas for how to use it, ideally for a main course.
Usually, I'd make tandoori chicken or tsatsiki or add it to smoothies/ bowls of fruit. These will be my fall back, but I'm always amazed at the lovely suggestions MN comes up with and always happy to try new recipes.

Please don't tempt me with cake recipes as I try to avoid cakes apart from special occasions!

Thanks

Not a main, but mix equal quantities Greek yog with flour to make flat breads!

minipie · 20/02/2023 20:00

mix half half with mayo to make dressing for potato salad or Waldorf salad

big dollop on the side with curries or chilli, or in fajitas, or stir a spoonful into a spicy soup - anywhere you’d use sour cream or creme fraiche

For breakfast with nuts, seeds, fruit, cinnamon

Use it to make homemade flatbreads - lots of recipes around, I think I use Jamie Olivers. Dead easy

There’s a delicious Ottolenghi cheesecake recipe with honey and thyme, which I won’t mention.

Flatbreads or pizza

Ooh that sounds great. Is it equal amounts by weight or by volume please?

Overnight oats? Bit more filling than just fruit and yogurt. To have with goulash?

I did come on here to share a lemon drizzle cake recipe though!

No, best you don't mention that, but it sounds fab. Thanks for all the ideas, appreciated

@RockingMyFiftiesNot equal weights - self raising flour & I add a large pinch of salt. They're so easy.

Iguanainanigloo · 20/02/2023 20:06

With a spoon, straight from the tub. 😂 I ate an entire 500g tub the other day without even realising I'd eaten it all... Absolutely love it!

<<<fingers in ears>>>

I'd forgotten about overnight oats too. Definitely worth having another go thanks

Lovely with pancakes, maple syrup and fruit.

I really like this recipe

martinisforeveryone · 20/02/2023 20:16

Admittedly it doesn't use loads of yoghurt, but I like it for a fish curry dish

In pancakes! Ideal for tomorrow!

SuperfastJellyfish · 20/02/2023 20:20

As a pp said - Jamie Oliver's flatbreads. Sooooo good 😋

PillBoxes · 20/02/2023 20:20

Look up "porridge bread", dead easy, uses up the yogurt and is delicious. And not cake either! 😉

SuperfastJellyfish · 20/02/2023 20:20

Just Google. Recipe online and dead easy

ChatSamosa · 20/02/2023 20:20

Turkish eggs.

DuesToTheDirt · 20/02/2023 20:45

Use it as a moussaka topping, preferably mixed with an egg to make it firmer.

mrsawhite · 20/02/2023 20:46

Chicken tikka! Made one on Saturday was yummy. Can marinate the chicken in yoghurt and spices too

toastofthetown · 20/02/2023 20:54

Meera Sodha's cauliflower korma is so nice. I'm not normally a fan of British Indian restaurant style but this is so good with so much depth of flavour from the caramelised onions and roasted cauliflower and the tang from the yogurt offsets it.

SummaLuvin · 21/02/2023 07:09

Echoing a couple of other posters

  • flatbreads
  • Meta Sodha curry, though i have another to recommend Pistachio and yogurt chicken curry it’s and absolute favourite (I must admit the korma linked above is delightful too)
  • salad dressing,
stepfordwifey · 21/02/2023 07:40

I made Jamie's flatbreads recently and froze a batch. They were so much easier not having to faff about with yeast. They were really delicious. Great way to use up the yoghurt.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/02/2023 08:04

I use it instead of sour cream with Mexican food. I know it's not exactly the same, but it's close enough and saves buying different things. So a dollop on chilli, fajitas, as a dip etc.

ohfook · 21/02/2023 08:08

I have it with cherries, porridge oats and a bit of cinnamon for my breakfast.

Rainbowqueeen · 21/02/2023 08:09

Use it as the base for a dip. Add garlic, cumin, salt and pepper and lemon juice. Cut up vege sticks and enjoy.

As well as using it for overnight oats I also mix it with chia seeds and berries to make a chia pudding.
