theyoungvisiter · 08/02/2008 15:06

well, I just googled "steak canadians" and the first link that came up was www.touringandtenting.com

According to a poster on there, steak canadians are also known as minute steak (which I have heard of!)

theyoungvisiter · 08/02/2008 15:07

the gospel according to touring and tenting dot com

suzywong · 08/02/2008 15:07

are you certain she didn/t get them from the man in the market with the pet food stall and not the butcher?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/02/2008 15:08

Are you sure you didn't totally mishear 'steak medallion'

cornsilk · 08/02/2008 15:11

I can't beleive how many have never heard of Steak Canadians. It is literally, just very thinly sliced steak - made into a sandwich with loads of onions - YUMMY!!!

Jennster · 08/02/2008 15:19

Ive heard of Steak Canadian or Canadienne? At my local butty shop it's thinly sliced hot beef and onions in a barm (although they call them teacakes for some reason)

minute steak = shoeleather though surely?!

Joash · 08/02/2008 15:22

No - it's cooked VERY quickly, lovely, not tough or chewy as my DC's would say.

Gingermonkey · 08/02/2008 15:24

I've heard of it!!!!! It's very thinly sliced steak - M&S sell something like it (in case you are too afraid to ask in the butchers). You cook it for about 20 seconds each side or it goes like leather. (see, you're not going mad )

RTKangaDYSONMummy · 08/02/2008 15:25

Weird name though

i lived in Canada for 3 years and never heard of it

The steaks in canada are HUGE

pointydog · 08/02/2008 15:29

Ah, so a hot beef and onion sandwich - which is often served with gravy all over (boak) when I used to live way up North.

cardy · 08/02/2008 16:41

I remember when I was younger my mum bought some frozen steak Canadian (aka minute steak). I think they were a bit of a 70's thing. We had them with onions as a toasted sandwich.

Joash · 08/02/2008 17:45

Cardy - I remember those frozen things - my mother bought them once, but they're not 'real' steak - just reconstituted beef 'products'
