What can I make with four tubs of double cream?

I just popped for a load of bread and came back with four 300ml tubs of double cream at 5p each!

I could sling them in the freezer but what would you make with them?

Butter?

crackofdoom · 09/11/2022 19:55

Ice cream.

Henddraig · 09/11/2022 19:55

That’s a lot of cream. I’d freeze three I think. Creamy pasta sauce for dinner (no more than half a tub?) and a whipped cream filling for a sponge with the rest.

Now that’s a money saving idea. Shall I literally get ds2 to shake them for a few hours?

Lemon posset. Cheesecake. Ice cream.

Ooo sorry that was to the butter suggestion

This Mary Berry ice cream recipe. It is so easy, and delicious.

CaronPoivre · 09/11/2022 19:57

Freeze them or make cheesecakes, panne cotta, parfait and freeze.

RamblingFar · 09/11/2022 19:58

Butter.

You just whisk it straight to butter, strain and then refrigerate.

bravelittletiger · 09/11/2022 19:58

I actually use cream quite a bit if I have one open in the fridge...add some to soup, have it in coffee (very indulgent but yummy), add to a pasta sauce, use it to make a cream sauce for a chicken pie...

But if you've got four tubs it probably need a recipe mainly based around cream! A gratin uses a pot of cream, so does a Mary berry chicken and peppers recipe, or sweet stuff like others have said.

If you've got a food processor or a stand mixer then that will be quicker 😉

Potato dauphinois. Mmmmm.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/11/2022 19:59

For butter, I mean

AnApparitionQuipped · 09/11/2022 20:00

Pavlova cake
Korma curry
(meat of choice) in cream sauce.

Unescorted · 09/11/2022 20:01

Cream turns to butter more quickly when it is tepid.

BleuKlein · 09/11/2022 20:01

Gratin Dauphinois (potatoes, cheese and cream oven bake)
Roast chicken with cream, apples and prune sauce or a tarragon sauce
Lentils with lardons and shallots + cream

  • any excuse to use cream

Lots of ideas! I’ve never made butter. I’m tempted to give it a go. The cream is obviously dated use by today hence the 5p price. Would that mean the butter won’t last?

No... The whey is the bit that goes off. Wash the curds and you should be fine. If you are worried you could clarify the butter - it makes a really good cooking fat.

Lazyi · 09/11/2022 20:24

Quiche

bloodyeverlastinghell · 09/11/2022 20:29

I’d do butter, it freezes really well and you can do different flavours garlic, rock salt, chilli. Pan fried anything cooked in butter is my favourite food

Tiredofthis2022 · 09/11/2022 20:31

Ice cream
fudge

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 09/11/2022 20:32

Freshly made butter is divine and the buttermilk is so so good. I made it with at date stamp double cream once and it lasted fine. Took so long and was very messy because once it starts to separate the buttermilk is so watery it splatters terribly, but very much worth it and what I'd do.

Renter77 · 09/11/2022 20:36

Ice cream! And a pavlova if you have some left. And maybe some creamy pasta?

Cream usually lasts well beyond sell by if it’s not opened and you can easily smell/taste when it’s gone off. I’d say you’ve got a month to use them.
