DD is attempting to make chips for the virgin fry.

What else are we cooking in our Ninjas?

love these threads! I am experimenting with mine and did a a beef Wellington this morning

BaconAndAvocado · 15/10/2022 14:08

JangolinaPitt Wow, sounds impressive! How did it turn out?

Will i was actually going to start s thread about this but you have saved me the trouble 😁.
It would have taken about an hour in the oven plus the pre heat time -took 25 in the air fryer at 170. And was good. The only thing that puzzles re is that c when a i do things in the air fritter b they cook perfectly and are hot but then cool really quickly, whereas in the oven where it stays hit for the time it takes to eat it… Has happened as couple of times so don’t think I am imagining it but it makes no sense!!

Just eating chips from the AF.....gorgeous!!!

I cooked salmon en croute in my AF yesterday, which worked very well.

I've found they are good for all small pastry items. Other recent successes are cauliflower cheese, cheese croquettes, onion bhajis.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 15/10/2022 14:55

We've just done a joint of gammon on pressure cook then finished off on air fry. Thinly sliced it makes lovely sandwiches for us all for work and school lunches and much cheaper than buying sliced meats.

Marmite chicken is a good one too. Chicken drumsticks brushed with a mix of melted butter and marmite and air fried for 20 mins. Absolutely delicious. I keep them in a tub in the fridge for high protein low carb snacks.

Tomorrow doing a beef casserole on slow cooker setting.

Monday is sautéed potatoes and chorizo and red peppers with lots of garlic and paprika on sauté function. Then add cod fillets on top and switch to air fry. Lovely quick and tasty meal.

Baked eggs - line a ramekin with streaky bacon and crack an egg into the centre then into air fryer basket.

Tandoori chicken then when it's almost done you can warm through naan or flatbread to make Friday night kebabs.

Which one did you get OP? I'm on the hunt for one but can't decide!

@AdaColeman

Do you have any photos of your cauliflower cheese? How did you make it?

@BaconAndAvocado

the first thing I'd try in mine is toasted sandwiches, everyone's raving about them.

my friends DH made them all fry bread last week, apparently it's THE best ever!

he makes fab toast potatoes in it...

... and all of this is why im
reluctant to buy one 😂😂🤣

I low carb for diabetes. I'm not sure I could resist all the carbs with an air fryer!!

PeloFondo · 15/10/2022 15:11

I mean they're pretty much chips but.. Grin
Cut potatoes up into small cubes, toss in seasoning and oil/spray oil and air fry
I eat them a lot with omelettes when I just want a bit of carbs!

TwoBlondes · 15/10/2022 15:11

Fakeaway chicken, I don't normally eat chicken skin but this is delicious

PeloFondo · 15/10/2022 15:14

Also pre prepared food for the less healthy stuff!
Great for part baked rolls, naan bread etc
Breakfast pork patties, hash browns for an easy breakfast sandwich (put in a toasted muffin with an egg or plastic cheese)

Mine is mostly used for stuff like that Blush but I have a shelved one, no baskets

I’m looking at Ninjas at the moment. I’m struggling to find out the difference between all the models. What can you cook in the model you have please?

It seems some of them can be used as a pressure cooker. I’m not sure if I need a pressure cooker. I had one about 20 years ago. I used it once and it scared the life out of me 🫣

How big are they? My kitchen is kinda small

Canthinkofaname79 · 15/10/2022 15:28

Following. I bought one recently but think it's too small. I made chips and they were awful, what am I doing wrong!

BaconAndAvocado · 15/10/2022 16:56

Canthinkofaname79 did you soak the chips in water first?
Apparently that gets rid of the starch.

PinkSox Yes it’s quite big. About the width of the microwave but taller.

@FistFullOfRegrets
Hello, no photos of cauliflower cheese.
I par boiled the cauliflower florets, made the cheese sauce in the microwave, put it into an ovenproof dish and cooked it in the AF.
I've got a selection of ceramic & pyrex dishes and foil trays that fit in the AF to use for anything with a sauce. I think of it more as a small high powered fan oven, than a fryer. The name is a bit of a misnomer really.

Canthinkofaname79 · 15/10/2022 20:05

Oh no I didn't?

Ah… Thank you. I guess my dream of owning a Ninja was just a dream then ☹️ My worktops all have a cupboard above them so no room to open the lid. Ah well…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

CrabbyCat · 15/10/2022 20:27

@PinkSox they aren't all that big. I have the Ninja Foodie Max Health Grill and it would fit under a cupboard above. I put mine on the hob to use and store elsewhere.

@Canthinkofaname79 what sort of chips were you trying to make. If you want crispy chips with a fluffy centre (more like frozen oven chips) then you want floury potatoes (e.g. Maris Piper's), and parboil them for 3 min, shake in the saucepan with a tbsp ish of oil to roughen up. Then put in the airfryer at 180C for about 25 min, stirring and every 7-8 minutes. If you want more like chip shop chips with a softer outside and less fluffy middle, you want all-rounder potatoes, and soak in cold water to remove starch, dry, and then cook in the airfryer. I can't be bothered to dry so start with 20 min at 150c before upping the temperature to 180c.

Did you shake them every two seconds?

From my friends description of cooking using it, I'd describe them as 'needy'

CrabbyCat · 15/10/2022 20:35

@FistFullOfRegrets at least for mine, needing to shake every 2s is definitely a sign the air fryer is set too hot. They need setting noticeably colder than an oven or you get stuff burned on the outside and raw on the inside - exactly as you would if you put it into a normal oven that was set too hot.

Thank you @CrabbyCat That sounds promising ☺️ I’ve been to a few shops to look at the different Ninja models. They are all sold out. I’m not happy to order online until I’ve seen the size of them
