I've just stewed apples, sugar and cinnamon. What can I do with the mixture?

That's it really. The mix is delicious but apart from buying a tin of custard I don't really know what to do with it.

Any great recipes?

Crumble? Pie?

ElectedOnThursday · 01/10/2022 15:32

Make an apple pie? A crumble?

Ageneralsenseofproundconcern · 01/10/2022 15:32

Shove a pastry lid on it?
Use it to make strudel?
Put a crumble topping on it?

bellac11 · 01/10/2022 15:32

With pork or ham?

Is there enough to freeze in little pots?

Fill some flaky pastry with it and roll up and put inn the oven with sultanas etc?

Apple sponge and custard. Apple in the bottom of a dish, sponge mix on top, bake and serve hot with custard.

Imtoooldforallthis · 01/10/2022 15:34

Well obviously pies and crumble, but what about layering up with yoghurt in glasses, or in a toasted sandwich then dusted with cinnamon sugar, filling for pancakes or in a trifle, serve with yoghurt and muesli for breakfast.

Topping for overnight oats once you're sick of crumble.

CollyWibbleWobbles · 01/10/2022 15:35

Crepes ?

Trulyweird1 · 01/10/2022 15:37

James Martins Apple Charlotte.

I had just a delicious pastry from my local bakery, basically an apple turnover but covered in toffee sauce. A toffee apple slice. Bloody delicious.

InsertPunHere · 01/10/2022 15:39

In yogurt or porrige for breakfast. With waffles or pancakes. With ready roll puff pastry for apple turnovers. Instead of jam in a Victoria Sponge. Serve with pork. eat on its own as a snack. As an ingredient in muffins. Put it in a pavlova and top with pecans or hazelnuts.

Movinghouseatlast · 01/10/2022 15:42

Use it to top a kuchen- basically a rich yeasted dough. It's delicious. Nigella has a recipe.

NotMeNoNo · 01/10/2022 15:42

Freeze in muffin mould portions. Defrost one each morning for your porridge.

lannistunut · 01/10/2022 15:52

I'd make a trifle

eveoha · 01/10/2022 15:56

Split a Madeleine top with vanilla infused 5% fat yog and put puréed apple on top - delicious 👍🏿☘️

Surtsey · 01/10/2022 16:30

Throw it away. Cinnamon is horrid.

Seriously though, how about apple turnovers?

Singleandproud · 01/10/2022 16:32

Put some in a mug with hot water for a hot spiced apple drink. I think normally you use star anise too.

Talipesmum · 01/10/2022 16:35

It shouldn’t have cinnamon in, but I made Apple Grasmere last night - the stewed apple is cooked to a near purée, then cooled and put in a large wide shallow pie dish. Then make a crumble topping with flour, butter, brown and white sugar and ground ginger, smooth very evenly over the surface and bake. Then allow to cool and serve cold with double cream.
It’s absolutely lovely, very different feeling from a crumble and v delicious. It’s an old Elizabeth David recipe - attached in the photo.

Sounds delicious!

grey12 · 01/10/2022 16:38

Unless it's green apples or cooking apples, next time skip the sugar 😉 i do that for when someone is ill and it's great!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/10/2022 16:39

A toastie. Dredge in cinnamon sugar after that and eat with ice cream..

CirreltheSquirrel · 01/10/2022 16:40

I make up big batches then portion it up and stir it into porridge.

Cheeselog · 01/10/2022 16:41

I’d just eat it from the pan warm with ice cream

notacooldad · 01/10/2022 16:42

Serve with evap milk!❤

I make a sort of modified version of a James Martin recipe (less butter!). Get a sheet of pre-rolled puff pastry and spread your apple mixture over it, leaving a small crust around the edges. Get a couple of apples, decore, cut in half and then slice into really, really thin half slices. Layer them prettily over the apple mixture so it's covered and then bake for around 20 minutes ish at 170 ish (can't give exact time or heat because it depends on your oven but look to see if it's nicely browned).
