I know there are threads with opinions on Thermomixers; and I know they are very marmite kitchen gadgets! I thought rather than a thread about how ridiculously expensive they are, or wonderful (depending on your view) I’d love to know what tips or recipes you recommend if you own one.

I have just joined the cult of Thermomix and am waiting for delivery would love to find out whose also a member 😅 and how you use it.

They see eye wateringly expensive and we are paying £100 / month with 0 APR But they seem to go on for decades if ones lucky. So I am looking at it that way and now I’m used to having ours I would already miss it !
OP that’s such a shame still waiting and mine did suddenly send an update then arrive almost the next day or two I think .

i forgot we also loved the lamb and feta burgers . I’m delighted to know what else to look for from this thread

Love mine, have had it about 4 years now. I love how easy it is to make curry paste and stock from scratch! I do a lot of bread in mine too, the kneading function is brilliant and nearly all traditional recipes I’ve tried in there have worked well. Also do a lot of soups and sauces and it’s ideal for blending veg into things for fussy DC……..

The only thing I don’t use it for is cakes, it doesn’t work as well as a kitchen aid for that.

Thank you for the price welshrarebit. I actually thought it might be worse given they're so secretive. I'm tempted as I'm so fed up for cooking and the same old meals. Is it really a time saver?

GADDay · 01/07/2022 11:12

My Thermo is like a second arm.

Curries
Sauces (fresh tomato base for pasta made in bulk)
Steamed veg
Mashed potatoes - best ever
Porridge oats 👍
Soup so many varieties
Fresh pasta dough
Fresh pastry
Pesto
Custard
Pancake mix
Muffin batter
Bread crumbs

Less often
Fresh mayonnaise
Fresh pesto
Stock cube
Butter
Buttermilk
Sorbet

It gets used at least 2-3 times a day

GADDay · 01/07/2022 11:14

I have had mine (TM5) for 6 years

fuzzwuss · 01/07/2022 11:17

The frozen fruit sorbet thing is great, and is lovely made with frozen mango chunks too

fuzzwuss · 01/07/2022 11:19

Aioli is lovely too. Waffle mix and all kinds of pastry is so easy. I make a lot of soups and a lot of bolognese type sauce.

Once I hear what the price increase is I’ll let you know.

Gutted to have received this -

“Due to the extremely high demand for Thermomix®, we're sorry to let you know that your Thermomix® will now be delivered between 6-8 weeks from your order confirmation rather than 4-6 weeks.”

Feel a little foolish now to have handed over money that could have sat in my account for a further 2 months.

I’ve had various TM models for 14 years.
Risotto, sauces, soups, sorbet, curries (best butter chicken ever!), smoothies are very tasty. No other gadget on the market does it better. Someone also mentioned Tenina, there’s also a Sophie something (Google Sophie & thermomix and she’ll come up), Thermobliss is also good. There are a few Thermo bloggers out there - the Australian ones tend to be best. The UK ones are often sales people. Takes chores like chopping onions, garlic making bases etc really easy. The only things I find it doesn’t do well is mince, it’s horrid when done in the thermomix - better to do the sauce in the thermomix and brown mince in pan, then add sauce to pan. Victoria Cake sponges come out very dense - thermomix is way to powerful for the sponge, there’s a knack to getting it right though. Have fun with it !

incognitodorrito · 08/07/2022 07:26

Ps I’d also get a second lid for when making sweet stuff & baking, I’ve got one I use for roasting and grinding spices etc and one I use for lighter stuff. The bowl is stainless steel so bicarb / egg shells / lemon peel and dry on a sunny ledge will get food odour out but the silicone seal on the lids will get stained with time (turmeric !).

incognitodorrito · 08/07/2022 07:54

Here a few recipes to get you started:
Best chocolate cake full of fibre, very light and you absolutely cannot taste the beans.
Butter Chicken this recipe is better than the one in the TM recipe book.

PeterPomegranate · 08/07/2022 09:18

Ok. This thread has piqued my interest. If I was to browse second hand Thermomixes on Facebook marketplace what extras / accessories should I particularly look out for?

thank you.

PeterPomegranate · 08/07/2022 09:20

There’s someone selling a kosher thermomix (at first I thought she meant it was genuine - duh) which comes with 2 of everything except only the meaty whisk. Is 2 of everything useful (we are not Jewish).

incognitodorrito · 08/07/2022 10:43

@PeterPomegranate always good to have a spare or when your hosting for large groups. I like having two bowls and lids. I don’t think you really need the varoma twice though (unless hosting a big dim sum or bao bun party !)

incognitodorrito · 08/07/2022 10:44

@PeterPomegranate i don’t know though about second hand, anything electrical I’d want new for the warranty and customer support if you need it (I had an issue with my TM6 when I first got it and customer support were very quick to help).

PeterPomegranate · 08/07/2022 11:10

@incognitodorrito - hmm. Thank you. Good point about secondhand. But I don’t think I can justify the new cost.

Welshrarebitontoast · 19/07/2022 10:57

I'm still ruddy waiting 😂

mishmased · 03/09/2022 22:30

Hey thermomixers help! I need recipes that are quick, no tomatoes and do not go in the oven. My 7 year old wants some meals that don't involve tomato and I want ones that do not involve using the oven.

Welshrarebitontoast · 04/09/2022 08:47

Courgette and Feta Risotto - quite a few risotto recipes are tomato free.

Asian chicken noodle salad

Butter Chicken (Does have tomato purée in it but doesn’t taste of tomato).

Is he allergic to tomato or just dislikes it?

These are all recipes on Cookidoo that I’ve tried and enjoyed.

mishmased · 04/09/2022 17:37

Thanks @Welshrarebit75 not allergic, he's fed up eating tomato dishes as we do eat a good bit of tomato recipes. He's going through a weird food aversion phase and is already taking a dislike to the Thermomix and we don't want that 🤣
Today I'm making sausage and bacon casserole. He's happy with the tomato in it 😂
I'm also making spaghetti carbonara as well so fingers crossed he likes it. Unfortunately my eldest cannot gave the carbonara as he's allergic to eggs.

Welshrarebitontoast · 04/09/2022 18:24

😂😂😂. Fair enough @mishmased felt bad recommending the butter chicken (which is delicious), if it was allergy’s as it has a bit of tomato purée in it.

I’m trying the Creamy Mustard Chicken Stew tomorrow.

Pasta with Anchovies and Breadcrumbs Was also surprising good, for a simple dish.

mishmased · 05/09/2022 15:34

@Welshrarebit75 the butter chicken looks tasty. So last night I made the spaghetti carbonara and he said it was too cheesy. He ended up eating the sausage and bacon casserole (that has tomatoes) 🤦‍♀️
I also made the potato and pea curry all in one evening but even a day! I'm very impressed by the Thermomix.

incognitodorrito · 05/09/2022 17:03

this is „plain“ but surprisingly tasty. It’s from the „full steam ahead“ book - would recommend !
