I have bought an air fryer!

So after much thought I have finally bought an air fryer. I know there have been lots of threads, but I can't find them. You tube videos all seem to be cooking chips and chicken, so I am looking for some recipes and inspiration if anyone would like to share?

It's a double one with 8 litre capacity, the instructions don't have any recipes and it just says don't over fill, but no guide as to what quantities.

We've had in the last few months;

Nando's chicken and chips
Lemon drizzle cake
Burgers
Bacon sandwiches,
Hunters chicken & chips (Tesco)
Sausages to go with the mash
Reheated curry
Fish fingers
Fajitas
Enchiladas
Nachos in 5 minutes
Any of the batch cooked meals in the freezer can be reheated in 15 mins from frozen
Jacket potatoes
Donuts
Cheese toasties

We barely use the oven now

I do make a salad with every meal btw we don't live off beige food!! It'd just hard to cook from scratch in a pan when I'm on nights

Anything that you cook in the freezer can be cooked in the air fryer

Swap freezer for oven

Mol1628 · 30/05/2022 21:32

I just got one last week and I love it.

So far I’ve done oven chips. Meatballs. Diced chicken breast and also crisped up taco shells.

Cant wait to try more. The biggest benefit for me is the easier clean up.

Roselilly36 · 31/05/2022 07:25

Yes so easy to clean, I love that too. The only advice I would give to anyone thinking of purchasing is to buy the largest one you have room on the worktop for. Ours is 5.5ltr Corsori, it’s great.

I have been thinking about buying an air fryer and you are all persuading me! I wondered what brands you have?

I wanted the duel Ninja, but it is so expensive and I wasn't sure how much I would use it. So I bought a daewoo instead which is similar style.

Very pleased so far, and easier to use than I thought. I just cook things for less time than the oven. The only annoyance is it will only cook when both drawers are in.

This one although I paid £110 last week.

We've done a rotisserie chicken in ours every week since we got it. Burgers, chips, pork chops, chicken breasts, roast potatoes, sausages, rashers, black pudding. I swear we do eat vegetables, I just don't remember. It does a lovely roasted sandwich as well. And garlic bread.

DH bought premade lasagne one of the days and the tray it came in actually slotted perfectly onto the rack in the fryer so I'll keep a couple of those in the freezer for emergencies.

I'd love to find a casserole dish that would fit in it. Then I'd have no use for the big oven at all.

Fedupsotired · 31/05/2022 08:42

I bought the instant pot vortex 6 in 1 as it was half price last weekend!

Fedupsotired · 31/05/2022 08:43

The children heated up pan au chocolate in it this morning but not as good as a traditional oven apparently. We'll try again but at a lower temp

AtomicBlondeRose · 31/05/2022 08:47

I have a dual Ninja - it was expensive but it’s so useful. My DP has made one meal in the oven since I bought it as he was wary of the Ninja and was cursing when an hour and a half later everything was still not done, so now he’s a total
convert.

The roast chicken is amazing and so quick and easy, we’ve been doing those a lot and baking cheap ham joints too. So it saves money on buying sliced ham/chicken breasts etc. I make soda bread often as it’s so easy and that’s popular. Kids do croissants/waffles every morning, toasties for lunch, and I did sausage, oven chips and onion rings last night in absolute record time. It’s a lifesaver for people who need to get dinner on the table quickly after work. Oh and those part-baked bread rolls take about 7 minutes and are delicious.

AtomicBlondeRose · 31/05/2022 08:51

And the biggest thing of all for us is jacket potatoes - 15 min in the microwave, 20 mins in the air fryer and they’re as good as oven cooked. My oven is so crap they take way over an hour which puts them out of bounds for a weekday tea. Now we’re having them all the time as they’re so fast and everyone likes them (and cheap!)

My one is Gourmia 6.7lt from Costco. I love it. It has a tray that you put food in. And it can go in a dishwasher. So far I have done steak, chicken, chips, lamb chops and grilled tomatoes🍅. I have had it for less than a week, but it has been used so much already. I have not used my oven since, and I use a steamer for vegetables🌽

cheeseaholic · 31/05/2022 14:48

I need to join this thread... bought an instant pot vortex last weekend and no idea what to cook in it!

Google brings up all sorts... anyone have a link to some good recipes?

It's the timings that I'm most unsure of!

AtomicBlondeRose · 31/05/2022 18:50

Start by putting stuff on for half the time and just keep checking and adding five minutes. In mine everything cooks way way faster than I expected so erring on the side of caution is recommended. But you can cook anything in it that you would put in the oven, and then some.

Fedupsotired · 31/05/2022 19:04

We did wedges tonight, took 20 mins with no par boiling so much quicker!

Mol1628 · 31/05/2022 19:22

@Fedupsotired what potatoes did you use and did you soak them or anything? Wedges are my next thing to try. I love home made wedges but they just take so long ! Do they still get crispy and fluffy even if you don’t par boil?

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 31/05/2022 19:46

@Mol1628 we use tinned potatoes Blush because they're very cheap and already ready to go, some cumin, garam masala, salt and chilli in the air fryer with the potatoes (drained) for 30-40 mins on 180 and they're amazing.

Or use salt, pepper and rosemary :)

So for 36p you've got amazing roasties in 20 mins.

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 31/05/2022 19:47

If you cut the tinned pots up they would do wedges in 20 mins

Mol1628 · 31/05/2022 20:03

Wow I never thought of using tinned! I usually just steam tinned potatoes. Great idea !

Fedupsotired · 31/05/2022 22:21

@Mol1628 these were baking potatoes (I always buy a big bag and chop them up for wedges). I was amazed they cooked in such a short amount of time.

We put them in a bowl and seasoned with oil and Cajun spice. They were tasty and cooked properly. I think they might be even nicer if parboiled but getting homemade wedges on the table in 20 mins was quite impressive!

Mol1628 · 01/06/2022 07:43

Ahh thanks. I have Maris pipers in the cupboard. I’m going to give them a go today!

AlexandraPeppernose · 01/06/2022 08:00

We use our for anything that we'd use the oven for. We have a veggie child so do her stuff in there to avoid cross contamination.

I personally prefer doing roast brocolli in the oven as the airfryer burns the floret before it cooks the stem however carrots are amazing in there with just a little oil.

Roast med veg also work well in there

Did a pork belly joint and got the best crackling I'd ever achieved.

Another success was drying rosemary from the garden. The lowest temp is too high for dehydrating however I found a branch of rosemary dried great in 3 mins at 75 so much quicker than hanging it.

danni0509 · 01/06/2022 08:20

I do everything in mine.

sweet potatoes / jacket potatoes, chicken fillets. Home made chips, sausages, cheese toasties, scampi, bacon. Burgers. Pork chops.

I toast pittas, bread buns. I do ds kids frozen pizzas and McCain fries in it.

can’t think of what else off the top of my head, but I haven’t used my oven since I bought it 2 months ago. I have the ninja foodie dual. It saves on electric too. Massively!

danni0509 · 01/06/2022 08:21

Only thing I’m not keen on is broccoli / corn on the cob in it. It’s burnt and not nice. I prefer to do that on my hob in the usual way.

I love corn on the cob in mine! Oil, salt, pepper and chili flakes. Like bbq. In fact I did a mini bbq last night, pork ribs marinated in honey oil and mustard, corn and sweet potato fries. I’m getting a new kitchen and am planning on just a single oven instead of a double. And ds1 is getting one for Christmas.

How long do you do the corn on the cob in it?

mine was too chewy, I experimented a couple of times and it came out the same both times.

I agree about the marinated pork chops, so nice!
