I just can't do it .Little bits get stuck on the egg ,half the egg comes away withe shell ..

I boil ,run cold water on them ,roll egg on hard surface and the massacre commences .
I like to eat them warm ,not freezing cold .

Bash one end, wrap in a tea towel or kitchen towel and tap all over on the kitchen surface. When all the shell is broken, it slides off with 1 or 2 peels doesn't it? You have to get the white layer to get a smooth egg!

I don't do all this bashing and rolling - you risk cracking the white.
I think it's best to do them soon after cooking before they're cold, tap to make a break in the shell and pull bits off with your nail. Usually comes away in a couple of large bits and some small bits. Drop it back into the old water to wash off any stuck bits.

Lots to think about ,thanks .I do take them out of the fridge and I do cook too hard and fast And I think I am rolling them too hard .

.Cooking is tricky as my hot plates are not controllable .They are full on or off .

Anyone with any success in putting them in cold water ,bring to boil and cover and turn off?

I did this the last time I cooked boiled eggs. Worked brilliantly (they weren't that easy to peel though but they were fresh and not room temp)

Agree that the older the egg, the easier to peel. They basically start to dehydrate as they age which increases the space between the egg and the shell.

In this instance you just cut the top off and scoop out don't you?

Only if you are eating a boiled egg as a meal on its own. But no good if you are putting them into a kedgeree or salad or as part of a nasi lemak or as a ramen topping.

Yes, I often slice up a soft-boiled egg on toast because I can't poach one to save my life

RestingPandaFace · 04/05/2022 17:35

Take a piece of kitchen towel and lay it on a board.
Take the egg out of the water so it’s wet and lay it on the towel
Fold the towel over the egg process down hard enough to crack the shell and roll it back and forth still pressing.
Open the towel up and find the biggest crack and start peeling there.
The shell will stick to the paper towel no the egg and you can scoop the whole lot up and throw it away.

I've just had two warm soft boiled eggs mashed together with salt and pepper .And maybe a little butter .

Came on here to say thank you to the person suggesting the method I employed .Only to find that I'd got it from You Tube !!

Anyway - I lightly cracked the broad end before putting into cold water and bringing to the boil for 2 mins .Emptied pan and filled with cold ,peeled WITH NO PROBLEM ...

Like this but no shaking ,so only half the procedure

Another vote for the instant pot, pressure change releases the shell from the egg and it slides off really easily. IP is pricy but good for lots of other things too, not just eggs!

Justkeeppedaling · 07/05/2022 13:07

The fresher they are, the easier they are to peel.

pastabest · 07/05/2022 13:17

Why are you keeping eggs in the fridge?

That really won't help!

Doggydarling · 07/05/2022 14:36

No tips re peeling ut I'm surprised at how many keep eggs in the fridge, I never have except when living in the US but not necessary in Ireland or UK.
