I take out small tupperware type containers. When dd1 was tiny used to take raisins, rice cakes, biscuits etc. Now she is bigger we also get those smoothies in the foil packs.

Raisins
Seeds
Muesli bars

Failing that buy a banana guard from lakeland !

i just go to tesco once a montha nd spend about £10 on snacks and they last me for my 2 dc's for a month!!....sometimes a little longer if we dont go out as often

SpawnChorus · 03/01/2008 14:31

Raisins and Goodies bars.

moljam · 03/01/2008 14:34

what are humzingers and humdingers fruit boxes?

OP posts:
DavidTennantsMistress · 03/01/2008 14:40

humzingers (think that's the name of them) are little sticks of dried fruits. DS loves them and the boxes are rasins and either apricots, sultanas or apple mixed together in boxes. DS loves both, esp when I add the boxes to a bit of natural yoghurt - his very own mix corner! lol.

pippylongstockings · 03/01/2008 14:41

Now my DS1 is nearly 3 I don't tend to give him snacks when we are out - I have found that way he eats his meals better. If anything raisins are my favorite choice as they take ages to get out the box!

I'm of the opinion that a biscuit is a biscuit whether it's organic or not - I'm afraid if they were to have one - i go for the cheap buy a whole packet at 59p option rather than the 5 bars for £1.99 option.

chocolateshoes · 03/01/2008 14:56

pecan nuts, cheerios, dried apricots...

Lizzylou · 03/01/2008 14:59

All Organix I'm afraid, Goodies Fruit bars and Goodies Flapjackie type bars, and Goodies crisps....perhaps a sandwich if it may be a long day.

RE: Organix stuff, I am a sucker, I know!
That said, I don't carry them around with me all the time, just when I know we're out for a while.

pippylongstockings · 03/01/2008 15:15

I'm not against organix stuff just a tightwad!!

Always used to buy it but now have 2 DS who have 2 packed lunches a week for going to the CM I err on the side of cheapness...

Lizzylou · 03/01/2008 15:18

I only use Organix stuff as it is portable for taking out of the house and tend to make biscuits/give fruit for the boys if at home.

I agree, it is very expensive!

this morning for dd (15 months) I took a banana, a tangerine and a snack trap (fabulous invention) filled with raisins and cheerios

glaskham · 03/01/2008 15:21

oh i only buy the organix if we go to tesco.....which to be honest i haven't done for a while and have got my humzingers (which yes are little sticks of 100% fruit) and the humdinger boxes from boots.... they sell them in the snacks bit in boots and in the dried fruit section at tesco...or sometimes i just go for cheap and cheerfull sunmaid raisins, or even 13p for 2 packs of raisins from asda....keeps my two happy and they'd rather have 13p between them on rasins than 30p each on a bar of chocolate or something crammed with sugar!!!

Lizzylou · 03/01/2008 15:21

Tassiss, What is a snack trap?

15 month old DD gets selection of grapes, tangerines, raisins, organix flapjack type bars, rich tea finger biscuits and those museli yoghurt bar things whose names escapes me now. And water only as she won't drink anything else

Woollymummy · 03/01/2008 15:25

DD is 18 months old. We take a banana (or two, one for me, one for her) raisins, big rice cakes, oatcakes, clementines, sometime grapes or blueberries in a Lock-and-Lock box. Sometimes a bit of bread too, or a cold baked potato. If we are having a treat I will buy a croissant to share! We don't take all of the above, just some, depending on what is in. When she was little, I would take random boiled veg!

tassisssss · 03/01/2008 15:26

lizzylou, google it, it's a cup type pot with 2 handles and a sort of mesh type top that wee ones can put their hands through to get to snack, but the snacks won't (well will a bit but not bad!) fall out.

we love ours and buy it for presents all the time! bigger mothercares stock them.

Woollymummy · 03/01/2008 15:27

Oh, and a tommee tippee full of water, though she has just cottoned on to the idea of apple juice in little cartons, that her older cousin likes....

Lizzylou · 03/01/2008 15:29

Thanks, sounds like it could save me a fortune!

collision · 03/01/2008 15:30

When we were at CenterParcs a 13month old baby tucked into the snacks her Mum gave her which consisted of a fruit shoot, a sausage roll, a packet of Wotsits, a cheese string and it was all finished off by a purple lollipop!

I sat there watching in disbelief thinking, 'if only I could post on Mumsnet now!'

poor baby
