OMG- poor baby ....i had a friend who used to give her son nothing but the best foods, always fruit/goodies/organix etc....then when he was 17mths she had her second child, a daughter and ever since she was born her ds gets chucked in the front of the buggy, once i saw him with no coat or socks/shoes on in winter sat with a sausage roll in one hand and a massive smarties cookie in the other- i was gobsmacked!!

fireflyfairy2 · 03/01/2008 15:44

glaskham.. just a little judgemental there perhaps?

I'm sure you're really not insinuating that your friend cared less for her ds when her dd was born....

It depends on what age the children are. DD is 6 & is more than capable of going between meals without a snack. Ds is a hunger striker & it bothers him to eat at meal times, never mind be forcing snacks down his throat.

Hulababy · 03/01/2008 15:56

Now DD is older I don't have any snacks on me geenrally, unless going on a long journey.

When she was little it was things like raisins, snack bars, rice cakes, biscuits, snack bags liek those from Organix.

glaskham · 03/01/2008 16:02

i am insinuating she cares more for her dd than she does her ds....until dd came along her son was always dressed in pristine top of the range clothing, always looked smart, was clean, never looked neglected at all....then dd came along and she got that treatment instead, designer clothes etc, and ds is justextra baggage, she's constantly seen with only dd and ds is always left with anyone she can possibly leave him with, other friends have been asking me why she no longer cares about her son as much as she used to....and i do remember a day when she just mentioned she'd never wanted a boy and was over the moon she had her princess, 'he' will start learning to take care of himself......that is what she said.....but i didn't think much of it, thought it was a sweeping statement about she was having a baby he was getting a bit older sort of thing!!

Alpen bars or currant buns now but when the boys were younger, tiny boxes of raisins and a little box of plain biscuits. Breadsticks on car journeys but not really when out as they are very brittle and tend to end up as crumbs in my bag from being battered about.

DS2 used to love the Organix bars but since he has discovered Alpen Bars he seems to find them a bit dry (they tend to crumble very easily)which is a bit of a shame as Alpen bars have more sugar I'm sure. Cartons of juice as well.

Washersaurus · 03/01/2008 16:08

I always take raisins, apple juice, a cup of milk, sometimes banana or orange also. Rice cakes also good.

DS1 also loves the hugely expensive fairtrade mango pieces from Tesco which I put in A LITTLE POT FOR HIM -oops 'scuse CAPS.

fireflyfairy2 · 03/01/2008 16:09

Well, I must say I find it very hard to believe, but if you're her friend then can you help make her see how unfair she is being to her ds?

skeletonbones · 03/01/2008 16:11

usually a cerial bar and a bottle of squash. staves of the 'muuuuum can I have!!' well sometimes anyway
of sandwiches/pitta breads if I've been a more oragnised.

glaskham · 03/01/2008 16:25

i tried and she doesn't see what she is doing is wrong....haven't spoken to her in months to be honest as she though we were all interfering asking about where her ds was when she never brought him to play with the other kids like we used to....

VictorianSqualor · 03/01/2008 16:29

I had to go to the hospital today, was expected to be there a good few hours and as it was pretty serious had to either take DP and the DC's (MIL would normnally have had them but couldnt get time off work) or go alone, so we took them and took them each a packet of raisins and a packet of choc buttons.
They got the raisins during the long boring wait and the choc buttons in the car for bahving.
Bribery? Moi?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 03/01/2008 16:39

Yaddayah - LOL at the banana guard!!!!
We always have bananas - I nornally keep them in a tupperware box to stop bruising -don't think I could keep a straight face when producing the banana guard from the bag...
Other useful snacks are babybels, grapes, stasumas and cooked little sausages.

moljam · 03/01/2008 20:50

thankyou tips are fantastic.ds is veggie and also cows milk intolerant so find it bit harder than dd and ds1 who used to like chunks of cheese etc on the move!
ds2 is addicted to his bottle bit im trying to get him to have less so want extra snack ideas to take out instead of bottle!
