What do you eat for lunch if working from home and dieting?

I get really stuck for lunch ideas, I usually end up eating bread in the form of a Sandwich, soup and bread or punched eggs on toast but I really need to cut down on bread. What do you have for lunch that doesn’t involve bread? Also not keen on eating salad during the winter 😬.

I have this , in that always a sandwich, as packed lunch . Iv started with a good quality shake . Working a treat ! I found I now have one at home too , as my lunch seems to incorporate all the random leftovers if not 🤦‍♀️

ApolloandDaphne · 18/01/2022 11:05

I am no help to you as I eat soup and a sandwich but I have switched to the Hovis small wholemeal bread with no added sugar which I find better aa it is much lower in calories and helps me feel full.

HereticFanjo · 18/01/2022 11:05

Definitely soup it's my go to.

elliejjtiny · 18/01/2022 11:05

Soup. I'm trying to cut down on carbs, especially bread so I don't eat bread with it but I add either lentils, a rasher of chopped up bacon or a bit of grated cheese to my soup to make it more filling.

Lovemusic33 · 18/01/2022 11:07

I love soup but I can’t eat it without something to mop the last bit up with 😬.

I have soup this evening (Gusto, broccoli and asparagus with cheesy bread), I do have some bacon and some duck eggs which I could have for lunch without bread. I like the idea of bacon in my soup.

Ryvita, the multi grain one. Its only 35 calories a slice and very filling. It also actually tastes nice! I put cheese on it and have a salad with no dressing, but a sprinkle of salt and some balsamic vinegar

Lovemusic33 · 18/01/2022 11:09

I do eat whole meal or brown seeded bread (lower in sugar). I need extra fibre at the moment so I’ve been having musli for breakfast.

I am a grazer, never feel full but I need to lose a stone so I’m trying to stick to 3 meals and cut out the snacks.

Sometimes I make up a big tub of quinoa salad (mixed colour quinoa, chopped peppers, edamame beans, sunflower seeds, garlic, ginger, lime juice, pomegranate seeds, chopped fresh parsley/mint) and keep it in the fridge so I can have a couple of scoops of it for lunch

Salad topped with avocado and seeds
Soup - I make a huge vat of it and freeze in portions
Crackers or rye bread with peanut butter and banana
Cauliflower rice with homemade katsu sauce and sliced chicken

EveMonsoon · 18/01/2022 11:09

I’m trying to cut back on the bread, so I’m having things like oatcakes or ryvitas instead. Sometimes I have a poached egg on a potato waffle, and sometimes I have a bowl of cereal (something filling like all bran).

MeatyRvita · 18/01/2022 11:10

Mainly soup or a big omelette - filled with things like tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, peppers etc to bulk it out and something like cheese/ham etc for flavour (basically a combo of whatever I have in the fridge)
I sometimes like a prawn or tuna salad too- again bulked out with tons of salad veg. I like feeling like I have a big portion!

I also make a big decaf ice coffee with almond milk, and sugar free syrup as it feels like a real treat but low in calories.

I am doing Slimming World and make a crustless quiche which I have with salad. I make a large one in a big quiche dish which does 4 dinners. It's six eggs mixed up with a tub of fat free cottage cheese and seasoning. I chop and fry off loads of veg like onion, mushroom, sweetcorn and tomatoes. I cook one of those packet pasta n sauce to add some extra fillingness to it. Mix all together in dish and sprinkle over a bit of lower fat feta cheese. Chuck in a bit of ham if I have it. Bake in oven on lowish heat till it's set.

Lovemusic33 · 18/01/2022 11:10

Oh, I do have a lack of ryvita, I remember picking them up a while ago thinking they would be healthy. I will try them with my soup.

If I want hot I have beans on toast. Half tin beans, 2 bread and 1 boiled egg.

Sometimes just a cuppa soup. No bread

Lovemusic33 · 18/01/2022 11:11

I will add cottage cheese to my shopping list. I love eggs so a crust less quiche would work.

Soup here as well, with an egg or two poached directly in it. I'll also throw in some grains and/or ramen noodles if I want it to be more filling.

Shakshuka, again with an egg and some crumbled feta cheese.

Lentils or buckwheat kasha (use roasted buckwheat for the latter) are also fast to make. Same for bulgur or couscous with lots of onions and veggies.

Andtheyalllookjustthesame · 18/01/2022 11:15

Soup, baked potato, sandwich, omelette, salad or leftovers. I never eat anything else for lunch, that gives me enough variety. In summer I favour salads and sandwiches, in winter I go for a bowl of leftover stew, a hearty soup or a baked potato with beans and cheese.

Pinchofnom · 18/01/2022 11:17

Soup
Turkey sausage, poached egg and beans
Ham and cheese omelette
Fajita chicken salad
Roasted chicken and watermelon salad
Any salad with protein
Salad with a filled jacket potato (carby but not bread)

flatmouse · 18/01/2022 11:20

Mixed bean salad (tin mixed beans rinsed and drained with kitchen sink thrown in)
I've dropped from 2 pieces bread to 1 but I'll still have 2 poached eggs
Salads with tinned mackerel or prawns but maybe some seeds or nuts for crunch (toppings)

wusbanker · 18/01/2022 11:25

I usually have brunch about 11 which is one piece of seeded bread, two pieces of bacon, half an avocado and a fried egg. That keeps me full all day, though if I do get hungry I have carrots and cucumber pre-chopped in the fridge to have with hummus. Preparation is key!

pawpatrolneedaunion · 18/01/2022 11:28

Dh and I have soup. We get the ones from the fresh bit of the supermarket and choose different flavours for each day. Works out at under 200 kcals most days but is actually filling as long as you don't get watery broths.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 18/01/2022 11:35

This soup! So I'm not a giant soup fan especially vegetable/lentil so for me to like it, it's good Grin
It's a bit spicy but not hot

Crepe pancake filled with whatever filling you want (savoury or sweet)

Flour, liquid (milk or water) baking powder. Leave to stand, loosen with water or milk, non stick pan, flip it, fill it (ham cheese, Nutella etc) fold. Done

lemonadesoda · 18/01/2022 13:27

If you can't eat soup without bread, would it be worth making an interesting vegetable stew instead, portioning it up into smallish lunch size portions and then freezing.

I think things like

or

lemonadesoda · 18/01/2022 13:29

Oops sorry, posted too soon.

I think things as above are the winter equivalent of salad, and really filling. Just need to be disciplined in keeping portion sizes sensible.

There's loads of different recipes online for similar stews.

FelicityFlops · 18/01/2022 13:31

Lunch is my main meal.
Today it was 2 organic poached eggs (size M), spinach and root vegetable mash (potato, sweet potato, carrot and swede).
