Non-sweet soft drinks

Please help me, as I'm drinking too much because of lack of inspiration. Grin

I have virtually no sweet tooth for drinks. I can cope with bitter lemon but find the taste of sweetener a bit grim. I like lime and soda. I drink almost entirely fizzy water as there's so little else out there, and now I'm drinking cold white wine out of boredom.

I love, love citron presse in France, when I can add tiny amounts of sugar. I've occasionally found lovely non-sweet lemon cordials (for £££s) which then get discontinued.

Any suggestions for cordials/soft drinks I've missed that aren't sweet? I don't like non-alcoholic wine but occasionally have the beers. Not really my go-to though.

Tomato juice.

RampantIvy · 19/07/2021 17:40

Lime and soda
Tonic water

careerchangeperhaps · 19/07/2021 17:41

You can get sparkling waters now that are infused with natural fruit flavourings but aren't sweet at all (no sugar or sweeteners). They're usually sold with the flavoured waters / mineral water in Tesco but I've also seen M&S do their own.

Can you still get plj in supermarkets?

GirlAloud · 19/07/2021 17:44

I enjoy fizzy water with lots of ice and a big squeeze of fresh lime juice. When I’m on holiday in the US I drink gallons of unsweetened iced tea.

StiffyByng · 19/07/2021 18:18

Thank you, all.

So iced tea not for me, I'm afraid. I don't like tea in any of its forms. Weird, I know.

I've always ignored fruit waters because of the sweetness. But these aren't sweet at all? Or are they sweet from the fruit taste even without added sugar, because that's still quite sweet?

I do love tomato juice, and should invest in more of it.

I've never seen plj in my local supermarkets although they do look like my kind of thing.

I second @careerchangeperhaps! I’m a fan of the raspberry flavoured Dash which has no sugar or sweetener dash-water.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-8ydtdLv8QIVNIODBx1WIAWkEAAYASAAEgL34vD_BwE

careerchangeperhaps · 19/07/2021 18:24

@StiffyByng No they're not sweet at all (the fruit infused sparkling waters). They smell fruity and taste fruity but without the sweetness if that makes sense. A bit like fruit tea - they always smell quite sweet but don't taste it at all.

Make sure you're buying the right ones as there are lots of fizzy waters that are sweet as they have sweeteners in them.

StiffyByng · 19/07/2021 18:37

@careerchangeperhaps thank you, I'll give them a go. I loathe the flavoured waters with sugar, although I've always drunk them by mistake so had a bit of a shock when I realised I was drinking them!

I like the various flavoured tonics by Fentimans and Fevertree, particularly the reduced sugar ones. Lots of lovely flavours, not too sweet at all and with the tonic ‘bite’.

Also James White lemon refresher with fizzy water and a slice or two of lemon.

fantastaballs · 19/07/2021 19:35

Volvo do a lovely cucumber and mint water. Also a ginger flavour one. But tbh I'd be making myself at home?

jaundicedoutlook · 19/07/2021 19:41

Try either Crodino or Sanbitter. Acquired tastes, but they grow on you.

Dilbertian · 19/07/2021 19:41

Pukka or Teapigs herbal teas, cold-brewed. Particularly their Licorice-based teas. The Licorice teas have a sweet mouthfeel, with actually being sweet.

You can cold-brew any herbal tea, and also green tea or white tea, but not black tea. You don't need to pay extra for something marketed especially for cold-brewing.

I have elderflower cordial, but diluted a LOT less than the bottle would suggest. Basically just enough to get a hint of flavour. And then I add a chunk of cucumber or wedge of lime - that's where the flavour comes from.

ReviewingTheSituation · 19/07/2021 19:45

That should be diluted a lot MORE! Basically, it's very weak.

Purpletoes · 19/07/2021 19:47

San pellegrino have a new range essenza which is flavoured sparkling water no sweeteners or sugar. My favourite is the dark cherry and pomegranate one.

Ylvamoon · 19/07/2021 19:48

I think you are better of doing your own.

Best "flavored water" I like is with a slice of cucumber and mint.

sylbunny · 19/07/2021 19:53

Angastoras bitters, lime and soda

A small amount of grapefruit juice topped up with soda or sparkling water.

La croix if you can find it is none-sweet flavoured fizzy water.

Georgyporky · 20/07/2021 10:53

Fruit teas. Make with boiling water, refrigerate when cool.
I like Berry Fruits

ReachedTheEndofCake · 20/07/2021 11:03

Also agree make you’re own.
If you get on with cucumber/mint water, try fresh chives as an alternative (as a kid I used a long fresh chive from the garden as a straw Grin )

Pieces of chilli and ginger work well in unsweetened tonic also. As do fresh ground peppercorns with grapefruit. Gin optional!

AdaColeman · 20/07/2021 11:06

Try V8 vegetable juice.

DoubleHelix79 · 20/07/2021 11:06

Not sure if it's sold here but my dad used to drink a spiced tomato juice drink - it was fairly hot, and a lot more flavourful than plain tomato juice. I should try to get some actually, it was delicious.

KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 11:20

Angastura bitters, lime and soda
This. Bitters aren't non-alcoholic.

You could try vinegar shrubs.

I'm another who isn't keen on sweet soft drinks or artificial sweetener.
Water is ok. Some squashes and cordials are ok.

eurochick · 20/07/2021 11:22

Get an infuser bottle and put some fresh cucumber or mint in it?

AdaColeman · 20/07/2021 13:34

If you can find some raspberry vinegar, a dash of that in water makes a refreshing drink.
