thick

AitchTwoOh · 12/11/2007 23:24

ah, right, norkmaiden, i like your generic red sauce thinking. and apart from the milk i'd say that's my spag bol recipe. (although i use whichever booze is to hand, but pref white).

or even sherry. and franca just because you're an actual live italian doesn't mean i'm going to take your passata fetich seriously... what is it actually for?!

to make sauce/sugo. It used to be a way of preserving tomatoes for the winter. so my grandmother used to boil tomatoes for hrs then peel them off, blend them and put them in bottles. But they needed to be sterilized (the bottles) to avoiud botulism, hence a various procedures (none of them scientifically grounded). Anyway, becuase passata is concentrated it takes 20 mins to make pasta sauce rather than 2 hrs with tinned tomatoes. but it goes without sayig that if you like tinned tomatoes then you don't need passata (though I second mixing tt with passata) oh god I'm rambling

AitchTwoOh · 12/11/2007 23:34

hmmm, so it's a convenience version of tinned toms? that i can see...

I use it in spag bol etc rather than a tin of toms because I don't like the bits! Do you want to bung it my way?

colditz · 12/11/2007 23:35

It's great! Snip, squeeze, heat and serve.

My kids love it. It's one of the five a day.

It is!

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 23:38

It is one of 5 a day, it is actually considered a superfood, or at least it was last year .
yes, it is some sort of fast food. simmer some garlic and olive oil, add passata, add some tinned tuna and parsley and you have a great pasta sauce in less than 30 mins (god I sound pathetic, don't I?)

AitchTwoOh · 12/11/2007 23:41

as a soup, colditz? (how's yer mouth, btw? )

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 12/11/2007 23:42

okay, gotcha. i may use it but i'd be more likely to do something stir-fryish if i only had 30 mins...

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 23:44

I am now officially hungry.

AitchTwoOh · 12/11/2007 23:45

am not understanding that post on a number of levels!

colditz · 12/11/2007 23:48

Not so much scoffed, as 'rammed them down her throat bypassing as much of her mouth as possible'

I use it as a basic pasta sauce. So ... ham, onion sizzled in pan, add garlic and herb passata and heat through, pour over noodles or quick cook pasta. Dinner in 15 minutes . Quicker than oven chips.

AitchTwoOh · 12/11/2007 23:51

they bottled babies??! was that your welsh side?

OP posts:
HartingtonRoad · 12/11/2007 23:57

i use it a lot
not so bitter as puree
i use tins and passata at once
ooooh like that spag bol recipe!

AitchTwoOh · 13/11/2007 00:00

and will you be adding the milk, hartington?

AitchTwoOh · 13/11/2007 00:02

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 13/11/2007 00:03

napy it's 29p for a small carton in lidl. that's where i bought mine, at any rate. or you can pay fortunes for big glass jars in the supermarkets. or just buy the tins and let it stew for ages, yum.

OP posts:
colditz · 13/11/2007 00:05

It's about 30p a carton, near the pasta sauces.

I can only just restrain myself from drinking it

colditz · 13/11/2007 00:06

tesco and morrison's both sell 30p cartons.
