Sunday dinners that aren't a roast

Bored of having a roast dinner every Sunday and want to try something different that doesn't take ages or require unheard of ingredients!

Any ideas would be appreciated Smile

Coq au vin. Pop chicken thighs, shallots, garlic in the oven. When looking pale just cooked (20mins?) pour in half a bottle of white wine, add mushrooms and herbs (I just use dried). Will be ready after another 20 mins.
Wine is based on 12 thighs. There is probably an official recipe online.

We're having lasagne this week as we're fed up of roasts too. A bit of a faff but I've the meat sauce already in the freezer so just need to do the cheese sauce

@Catmummyof2

Sausage and mash or pie and mash. Still feels Sunday-ish but a lot less faff
We have this most Sundays on an alternating rota. Pie/sausages also work well with most Sunday roast vegetables. Toad in the hole is a favourite too.

I agree with something like lasagne. I find spinach and ricotta cannelloni a bit less faff. Garlic bread on the side of course.

Cookerhood · 09/04/2021 21:28

Cow au vin is a favourite of our too. Or any casserole or a tray bake. Or just food like any other day. I'm so bored of catering!

PurpleDaisies · 09/04/2021 21:29

Sausages with red wine braised lentils (put everything in a pan and basically leave it) is easy but very good. You can freeze the lentils for another meal.

Curry!

KoalaOok · 09/04/2021 21:30

Fajitas

Poached salmon with baby new potatoes, french beans or cherry tomatoes and mayonnaise

MirandaMarple · 09/04/2021 21:32

A stew with dumplings
A pasta/gnocchi bake
A chicken tray bake
A whole piri piri roast chicken (or a tandoori one/harissa and lime one)

PattyPan · 09/04/2021 21:36

I like to do a stew using the dried stew mix you can buy which is like pearl barley, split peas etc. I cook it in the slow cooker with carrots, mushrooms, onion and veggie sausages.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/04/2021 21:36

Toad in the hole
Pulled pork wraps
Fancy soup, fresh bread, cold meats and cheeses
Salmon en croute

OverByYer · 09/04/2021 21:37

Ooh coq au vin! I was thinking earlier what to do as am so bored of roasts

Thisgirlcando · 09/04/2021 21:42

This isn’t a roast but it is a roast chicken!

Pork belly with hassleback potatoes, green beans and apple matchsticks. I just made it from my Gousto box this week and it was both easy and delicious.

We’ve done lasagne, toad in the hole, stews, tagine. Anything that takes a bit longer than we (I) can be bothered with (partner cooks on weekends).

Litthefirealready · 09/04/2021 21:52

Cottage pie?
Stew with chicken thighs, onion, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, tinned tomatoes, basil and rice?

I’m veggie now but I would love to have that on Sunday. (I’m a struggling vegetarian)

maddiemookins16mum · 09/04/2021 21:56

We often do a toad in the hole with mash, veg and gravy.

OverByYer · 09/04/2021 21:57

I sometimes make a fish pie or lasagna

Beecham · 09/04/2021 21:58

Posh steak pie from butcher with mash
Salmon with potato dauphinois
Pulled pork, coleslaw etc
Lamb curry
Lamb shoulder slow cooked with flagelot beans
BBQ if weather permits

AdaColeman · 09/04/2021 22:01

Chicken & chips, add mayonnaise for a touch of sophistication!

Boeuf bourguignon, doesn't need much prep, serve with Boulangere potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.
Add some chopped kidney to any leftover meat, and you've got the filling for a pie on Monday.

Gammon, colcannon and parsley sauce.

Bloodybridget · 10/04/2021 02:28

Moules frites. A fish and seafood stew with chorizo. Chicken and mushroom pie. Spatchcocked poussin. Selection of tapas or meze.

Marriagegoingtoimplode · 10/04/2021 02:44

A homemade chicken or steak pie with mash and some steamed veg

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 10/04/2021 03:09

Toad in the hole
Cottage pie

On a hot summer day we might go with chicken, salad, new potatoes and coleslaw or potato salad. Actually I quite fancy that this week.

SkiingIsHeaven · 10/04/2021 03:11

Egg and chips. Can't beat it with a stick.
