Non sweet filling breakfast

Fyredraca · 29/03/2021 14:29

Can anyone suggest any ideas for breakfast that aren't sweet or cereal etc.
Looking for something that doesn't take too long to prepare or could be prepped the night before.
Something filling and reasonably healthy.
Am not a vegetarian and no allergies or anything.

@Fyredraca

What would I have with the yoghurt that isn't fruit?
Sprinkle of cinnamon. Spoon of peanut butter.

Baked egg muffins/mini crustless quiches/ham and egg cups are good for breakfast and keep 3 days in the fridge or can be frozen.

Bread, cheeses, tomato, cured meat. Nice quick and filling continental breakfast especially if you get pre-sliced cheese from Lidl like I do 🙂

Tomatobear · 29/03/2021 14:37

Always beans on toast. Heat the beans in one of those Sistema soup pots. Easy peasy

Quit4me · 29/03/2021 14:37

Poached eggs, salmon or ham and avacado.
Very filling - long lasting, and very healthy.

One of my favourite breakfasts is poached egg on smashed avocado with Tabasco sauce.

Beans on toast I find really does keep me full

KihoBebiluPute · 29/03/2021 18:34

I make enough pancake batter to last 3-4 days, as it keeps fine in the fridge.

A jar of cook-in sauce divides into at least 8 little portions that I freeze in the mini pots that I used to use for baby weaning mushes. So usually I choose a mushroomy sauce, saute some mushrooms for a minute while microwaving a couple of tablespoons of the sauce, and combine with a handful of fresh baby spinach, then in the same pan that I sauted the mushrooms in I make a pancake, which I top with the mushroom & spinach sauce.

I imagine there are loads of other savory pancake toppings that would be just as good, but this takes about 4 minutes to prepare (5 minutes on the days when I need to make a fresh batch of pancake batter)

Burrito bowl - half tin of Tesco taco beans, poached egg, avocado, salsa. Bit of grated cheese if you want. Add in some brown rice or have it on a whole a meal wrap if you like.

Savoury overnight oats. Oats, water / skimmed milk, pinch of salt. Topped with hard boiled egg and bit of grated cheese and chives.

This might be too sweet for you but I eat over night oats (oats, unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds, pinch of salt) with some peanut butter and a couple of strawberries / cherries / blueberries.

Someone mentioned frittata above. Spinach, mushroom and feta is good and can be prepared in advance and heated up.

I'm a weirdo and have cottage cheese or eggs with a bit of mayo on marmite rice cakes nearly every day!

Fyredraca · 29/03/2021 19:04

Thank you so much!
I'm trying not to have a sugary breakfast as I get hungry again quickly.
Some great ideas here, will have a go!

Bacon & avocado sarnie.
Bacon takes 2 mins in a mic.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/03/2021 21:41

Bacon or sausage sandwich.
Or a bacon and sausage sandwich!
Or failing that a full English breakfast but while that’s quite quick to cook, there is an awful lot of washing up!

Overnight oats are good too and don’t need to be too sweet

JumpLeadsForTwo · 30/03/2021 20:22

Add some milled flax seeds to porridge/ Greek yoghurt - plenty of good fats, protein and fibre which are key to feeling full. Add a few berries. Perfect to start the day and keep you full till lunch. If you aren't used to flax seeds, start with 1/2 tbsp and build up to 2tbsps.

AdaColeman · 30/03/2021 20:37

Shakshuka

Noodles in broth

Piperade

Smoked salmon sandwich

Kippers with bread & butter

Kedgeree

Smoked haddock & poached egg

I have a weaning baby so have the what mummy makes cookbooks and have been making different savoury muffins and fritters etc from there. They really don't take long to make and freeze really well.

Latest ones were smokey chickpea and courgette muffins, not totally sure on quantities as I kind of did it by eye but mash a tin of chickpeas a bit, grate a courgette and squeeze as much of the moisture out as you can then put that in. Add smoked paprika, 3 medium eggs I think, tsp baking powder, some grated cheese, self raising flour - divide into muffin tray and bake. Fritters similar just grated veg, flour, baking powder , eggs, cheese if you like then fry - keep well in fridge or can be frozen.

Veggie frittata always a winner too.

I do love tinned cherry tomatoes on toast too.
