Desserts without chocolate or nuts which say 'Easter'

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/03/2021 09:32

Plenty of ideas for Easter desserts/goodies which contain chocolate. But I'd like a couple more with no chocolate which should also be nut free. Obviously there are lots of nut and chocolate free recioes, but none of the things I think of feel very 'Eastery'

I'll be making a fruit cake, might make a Simnel cake in addition.

Help please!

We usually have some kind of cheesecake, and a pavlova always goes down well. Something lemony always hits the mark after a roast lunch.

Bread and butter pudding using hot cross buns instead of bread

I second anything lemony. A tarte citrone or a lemon mousse would be my choice.

Ineedideas · 20/03/2021 09:42

I think lemon too - a nice light lemon cheesecake with a raspberry compote feels refreshing after a big dinner. I think you want light flavours that remind you of spring and approaching summer!
Lemon drizzle cake and lemon/poppy seed combos are delicious too.

That Pavlova looks fab thank you. I had originally discounted Pavlova as DH doesn't like meringue - but could make a chocolate alternative.

Thanks all, lemon seems so obvious now, not sure why I didn't think of that. And Hot Cross Bun bread and butter pudding sounds fab.

What about some cupcakes with an Easter theme? But free carrot cake with little carrots or bunnies on?

Or these

I was going to say making something with hot cross buns as well. You could do cream tea with them?
TheVanguardSix · 20/03/2021 10:19

A beautiful lemon drizzle cake.
Eton mess.
That Easter Lemon Pavlova looks glorious.
Lemon cheesecake too would be a nice option.

TheVanguardSix · 20/03/2021 10:19

Carrot cake is a good shout!

Lots of nuts in carrot cake though.

@littleredberries this is why I love MN. I was planning an afternoon tea one of the days and was going to make sultana scones. But Hot Cross buns instead will save me a job. I can always make suggestions for other people but have brain freeze when it comes to my own!

I can leave the nuts out, have done that before when I had loads of carrots and no nuts.

I'd never have thought of using them in trifle. Trying to imagine what the texture would be like? Although you've reminded me I have some trifle sponges that I didn't use at Christmas so you have given me another idea I should have thought of. I can decorate with choc eggs, easy enough for non-chocolate person to avoid

Pavlova - I find that it looks quite nest-like and looks great on an Easter table

I also make a meringue topped cake with the same idea of making the meringue later into a nest and filling with decorations/mini eggs

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/03/2021 13:29

Thanks @Mominatrix and actually could pipe it to look more nest-like (rather than the ring of 'blobs' I usually do!

Thank you all, really appreciate your help.

The person who can't have chocolate can have dairy? Wouldn't be my favourite Easter guest Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/03/2021 16:52

@UniversalTruth dairy ok, just not chocolate. But I wanted a variety anyway. It's only our household + one other person (we are their support bubble). but we don't normally have cake/pudding so am enjoying the excuse! Plus might box up some goodies for friends.

How about floating island pudding, it's so pretty and the yellow and white is very Easterish? I must admit I have never made it!

DaisyWaldron · 21/03/2021 06:58

I usually make lemon posset for Easter. Quick and easy, delicious, and just the right mix of fresh and luxurious.
