I am going to send a good friend of mine a hamper of British food for Xmas. He is in Vegas for Xmas and I would like ideas of food to put in it that he won't be able to buy in the states or that is better over here or typically British

How posh do you want to be?

Bunnybigears · 23/11/2020 22:15

Marmite
Baked Beans
Nice chocolate

BlackandGold · 23/11/2020 22:15

Marmalade
Loose leaf tea
Shortbread
Decent chocolate!

mollscroll · 23/11/2020 22:16

I know they don’t really have blackcurrants over there so black currant things like Ribena. Also fruit pastilles.

SushiGo · 23/11/2020 22:16

My mate recently asked for porridge 😆 apparently ours is better...

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 23/11/2020 22:17

Isnt that going to cost loads in postage?

MrsRogerLima · 23/11/2020 22:17

Branston pickle
Yorkshire teabags
Scottish shortbread

SushiGo · 23/11/2020 22:19

In my experience, yes! But hey, sometimes it's worth it to make someone smile.

MrsRogerLima · 23/11/2020 22:19

Also, is your friends English or American? I think it makes a difference if your sending things they will love d be familiar with or things to try

SushiGo · 23/11/2020 22:19

Quote fail. Above was in response to the question about postage.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 23/11/2020 22:20

....but anyway, here are my suggestions:

Shortbread biscuits
Walkers sensations
Tea

Lisa78Lemon · 23/11/2020 22:20

Pickled gherkins, fudge, jammie dodgers, variety of crisps e.g. walkers cheese and onion, skips, monster munch

QueenPaws · 23/11/2020 22:21

Sweets! Black currant flavour stuff
Flying saucers, Percy pigs, all the traditional British ones
Monster munch, skips

PirateCatQueen · 23/11/2020 22:25

Tunnocks Teacakes
Walkers Shortbread

LadyShrek2k19 · 23/11/2020 22:27

Mince pies!

Snog · 23/11/2020 22:28

Prawn cocktail crisps

Baaaahhhhh · 23/11/2020 22:31

My American colleagues used to fill their suitcases with digestive biscuits on return to the states. They loved them. Sausage rolls are another random thing they don't have.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 23/11/2020 22:33

Is he American or a Brit? Either way - don’t pack gentleman’s relish...🤢

NataliaOsipova · 23/11/2020 22:33

Decent tea
Marmalade
Digestive biscuits
Cadbury chocolate
Victoria sponge
Fruit cake
Crumpets
Proper jam with lumps of fruit
Baked beans
Robinson’s Barley water
Ribena
Cream crackers/water biscuits
Stilton cheese
Shortbread/petticoat tails
After Eights
Bakewell tart
Fish fingers
HP sauce

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 23/11/2020 22:36

What I usually get asked for:

Jam - proper lumpy jam
Biscuits - digestive, shortbread
Mars bars (apparently they are very different here)
Malteasers
Teabags
Shiphams paste
Sweets - any type really
Brandon pickle
HP sauce

purplecorkheart · 23/11/2020 22:37

Does they prefer sweet or savoury food? I am not a big fan of sweet food so would prefer a savoury package where as most of my friends would prefer sweet. Also have they any dietary requirements vegan etc?

ODFOx · 23/11/2020 22:40

American don't have salt and vinegar crisps, novelists, marmite, Lea and perrins, Colman's mustard, gentleman's relish, decent beer ( though difficult to post). They don't eat soft boiled eggs from egg cups so your friend might appreciate this as an opportunity to immerse in British culture( you'll need to explain about egg and soldiers):

ODFOx · 23/11/2020 22:42

Well that was weird. They do have novelists, but not bovril!
Horseradish also a good shout.

8obbingabout · 23/11/2020 22:43

oh my gosh send chocolate and lots of it! American chocolate is horrific.

MLMbotsgoaway · 23/11/2020 22:46

Novelists Grin
