I am going to send a good friend of mine a hamper of British food for Xmas. He is in Vegas for Xmas and I would like ideas of food to put in it that he won't be able to buy in the states or that is better over here or typically British

Maybe some local delicacies - there are some really nice oatcakes that I would definitely get people to post to me if I emigrated.

Coopers Oxford Marmalade
Coleman’s Mustard
HP sauce
Marmite
Cadbury’s Flake
Digestive Biscuits
Twiglets

@ILoveYourLittleHat

Chuck in a Christmas cracker too, they don't have them there! (Hopefully he'll have someone to pull it with? )
My ex-pat great aunt used to always ask for Christmas crackers as ours are better and cheaper but the post office guidelines changed some years ago so I couldn’t send them any more.

Also, do people really send things like cheese, clotted cream and sausage rolls to the US? Don’t they go off in transit?

Haven't read the whole thread but just in case it's not been mentioned - Just make sure it is legal to send whatever it is you are sending. It is, for example, illegal to send Kinder Eggs and Haggis to the US.

Don’t some states not allow alcohol to be posted in?

MagicSummer · 26/11/2020 08:54

I am pretty sure you are not allowed to send/import cheese into the USA.

How about:-
Sainsbury's chocolate shortbread Scotties
M&S tins of beef casserole (to make a pie) and chicken in white sauce
Tiptree Little Scarlet strawberry jam
Any fruit curd - lemon, lime, blackcurrant, passionfruit
Walnut whips
Good tea bags
Lea and Perrins
English mustard powder
Mint sauce

barkingfly · 26/11/2020 09:09

We do have Lee & Perrins. Send Hobnobs, please. And Maltesers.

My American friends loved: - - - - -digestives,

  • a variety of crisp flavours including Smokey bacon, roast chicken and prawn cocktail.
  • chocolate
  • marmalade
  • scones (with jam and clotted cream)

A one-person Christmas pudding (in a plastic microwaveable bowl)?
Christmas cake?
Definitely mince pies!
In my experience, though, most Americans think all that dried fruit is gross!
