I love trying out new recipes, and thought it would be fun to have a thread where we try stuff out and report back. Source must be cited and link provided if online. Photos encouraged.

Tonight I'll be making asian aubergine wedges, from Nadiya Hussain's Time to Eat book.
I like the taste of aubergine but have grave doubts about the texture. Still, I'm being brave and giving this a go.
Worth noting that I leave the chilli out of everything so that the dd's can eat it (I add at the table).

Anyone fancy joining me? (Waits for tumbleweed...)

Made a version of this Indian chip butty from Mowgli. Didn't have the recipe for the chilli or tomato chutney so used a super savoury garlic chilli chutney from the Spicery and it was amazing! Not sure our pan lid will ever be the same colour again after all of the turmeric but it was worth it.

@Imicola exactly that. Feta, halloumi and burrata on a bed of potatoes, onions and peppers, with a balsamic and pomegranate molasses dressing.
@MilduraS that sounds amazing. Turmeric stains do wash out, eventually...
Lots to cooking today, with mixed results.
Hummus: to use up the last of the tahini. BBC good food recipe. Tastes OK but not amazing. Salt and paprika on top improved it. People who will eat it: me.
Chicken marinara (Nadiya recipe, using the hummus) batch cook. Tasty, easy, people who will eat it: whole family.
Cheese frangipan tart (Nadiya again, naturally). Nice but too sweet for a main, more of a dessert. Also marmite us apparently the magic ingredient but I'd run out so used tomato chuney instead, which didn't help with the sugar count. People who will eat it: me.
Jam tarts with the kids. This was a snap decision based on the pastry I'd bulk bought on special offer being about to go off. Jam oozed everywhere but the kids were happy at least. People who will eat them: me plus kids.
Carrot and coriander soup batch cook. BBC good food again, one of my favourite soup recipes. People who will eat it: me, dh, dd2
Freezer stocked a bit at least.

Blimey Glumy what a productive day!

I made the Jamie Oliver Smokey Veg Chilli today www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetable-recipes/smoky-veggie-chilli/ which was really tasty. I subbed a tin of mixed beans for the butter beans. I also added some chilli flakes. Had a lovely deep flavour.

Indeed, that was a lot of cooking @GlumyGloomer
This week i have opened the pickled beetroot i made a few weeks ago then stashed in a cupboard and forgot about. Yum, it's really good, a bit sharper than shop bought, but i like that! It was also pretty easy and made a decent dent in my ridiculous beetroot glut. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/pickled-beetroot

Thanks, it was well above my avarage. The kids were parked in front of the TV for longer than they really should have been.
Veggie chilli looks good. Must confess I've always been a bit scared of beetroot, my childhood recollection being that it's much too earthy. I should probably give it another go sometime

I made Jamie Oliver's Beef Ghoulash soup this week & Nigel Slaters Stuffed Peppers with pork & rosemary.
Both were delicious and really easy to do. I have a really soft spot for stuffed peppers as we grew up on my mother's version of them. Hers had lots of bacon & anchovies mixed with mushrooms, peppers, garlic, onion & tomatoes. I think it was essentially using all the leftovers in the fridge😊

GlumyGloomer · 11/12/2021 12:39

Aw, that's a lovely memory @Fferny1. I have a very fond one of my dad throwing together a sort of red wine tomato risotto type thing with chicken and bacon. It was so good, teen me was amazed that he could do that off the top of his head. I still follow recipes 90% of the time.

Happy New Year!
I'm a very proud cook 😁
Ottolenghis vegetarian toad in the hole was our lunch today. With lots of Bisto Best mixed into fried onions.
