Any ideas?

Whole curried chicken was my only idea...but not sure dd would eat that as she hates spice!

My favourite dinner is roast chicken, mash , runner beans and gravy, but that might be too much like a roast dinner?

HRoosevelt · 19/09/2020 15:15

Spatchcock (flatten) it and BBQ?

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/09/2020 15:16

Or I guess you could section it up and then do anything you wanted with it - you dont have to cook it whole

Bluntness100 · 19/09/2020 15:18

Cook it in the slow cooker, with some veg, then strip it from the bone, throw it back in with the cooking liquid and veg and you’ve lovely chicken soup. Add some more water and chicken stock if required. The rest of the meat can be used for salads, sandwiches etc

Redwinestillfine · 19/09/2020 15:18

Hot roast chicken, freshly made bread, green salad, tomatoes, and warm potato salad hmmmmmmm

Einszwei · 19/09/2020 15:18

Spatchcock piri piri or mango and lime, with some flacourful rice and veggies. Could also chop it up and make chicken stew and dumplings.

That is a roast dinner, the clue is in rhe “ roast chicken “ bit..😃
quirkychick · 19/09/2020 15:19

Joint it and put it in a tray bake with onions, roast veg of choice. You could go for herbs and garlic, lemon or paprika, honey and mustard, whatever you fancy.

MrsWooster · 19/09/2020 15:21

I chop root veg and potatoes, add a bit of oil and salt and pepper, put the bird on top with lots of butter and salt on its skin then roast the whole lot. It’s basically the stuff thatS in A roast dinner but with minimal faff! The veg end up somewhere between caremalised and soggy, which sounds disgusting but is lush.

SilverOtter · 19/09/2020 15:23

Occasionally if we're feeling decadent we roast a chicken, slice it and eat it hot in fresh crusty white bread with creamy mayo and a spritz of lemon juice squeezed over. Heaven!

otterbaby · 19/09/2020 15:27

Shred it and use it in a curry or a lemon chicken noodle soup?

BigFatLiar · 19/09/2020 15:27

Boil it with veg using it as the stock. Big pot of soup with cooked chicken as well. You can then use the cooked chicken in sandwiches, a stir fry, curry, basically anything you'd use cooked chicken in.

ChelseaDaggers · 19/09/2020 15:29

These all sound fantastic and I'm not even hungry at the moment Grin.

I think I could manage spatchcocking, but I've never actually jointed a chicken. Would give it a go though.

As BigFatLiar says - chicken pot roast. Delia's recipe here www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/chicken/chicken-pot-roast

Bluntness100 · 19/09/2020 15:31

Joint it and do this, it’s delicious. Just some past and salad to go with it.

Jamie has the best recipe for this. We double the amount of cauliflower

I put one in a large casserole with root veg, garlic and herbs , add water and cook in oven or stovetop until it falls off the bone.
Good over rice, pasta, potatoes or with green veg.

Nice with grated fresh ginger and fresh lime added in too.

Usually end up with leftovers of meat and/ or broth.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 19/09/2020 15:34

I make this all the time: www.telegraph.co.uk/recipes/0/stuffed-greek-chicken-cayenne-oregano-orzo-recipe/

I don't always do the stuffing if I can't be bothered, it's good either way.

Her Bird in the Hand book is all chicken and it's great.

GlumyGloomer · 19/09/2020 15:58

Curry roast chicken is awesome. I made this without the chilli powder and my dd was fine with it. The middle bits of the chicken don't get very spicy, and you can always make some granule gravey on the side.

dancing and a show?

SausageCrush · 19/09/2020 16:13

Well I would still roast it, but serve it with tiger bread & butter, cherry tomatoes and posh crisps.

A side of rocket with a sprinkle of balsamic vinegar and some Parmesan shavings finishes it off perfectly.

This has been a favourite in our family for years.

Bon appetite!

Wraps and salad

AmazingBouncingFerret · 19/09/2020 16:22

Smother in bbq sauce 10 minutes before it’s finished cooking. Serve with wedges, green beans, and corn on the cob.

lazylinguist · 19/09/2020 16:24

We are having a whole Chinese-ish-style roast chicken (garlic and soy) with noodles and stir-fried veg, or maybe with a noodle salad, tonight.
