Potatoes too stodgy? Salad too summery?
Baked beans?

@CupoTeap

Super hot oil, not too much of it, or the base becomes mushy. Roast the potatoes and onions for a bit first to soften. Then bung the sausages in too for a while. Before finally the batter.

I wouldn't use a metal dish...ceramic is better imo. And brown the sausages before you pour the batter over them.[/quote]
Works fine for me in a metal dish

w0kingpizzaexpress · 28/07/2020 13:29

MinesAPintOfTea · 28/07/2020 14:09

@Babs709 it doesn't take long: 10-15 mins from raw (in florets)

fudgesmummy · 28/07/2020 14:13

Mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli here. With lots of gravy for me!
This was a couple of nights ago 😋

Swede and carrot mash, peas and gravy.

4merlyknownasSHD · 28/07/2020 15:13

formerbabe & @Endlessmizzle, as you need to have a very hot dish I would definitely use a metal one, and by metal I don't mean a non-stick coated one but enamelled steel or anodised aluminium. The only way to get it really hot before you pour the batter in is to put it on the hob (and non-stick coated roasting dishes won't generally cope with that high heat). The hotter the dish, the better the rise on your Yorkshire Pud.

Gravy, mash and cabbage to accompany (although I do like the sound of onions in with the YP).

Deathraystare · 28/07/2020 15:19

Onion gravy, mash and green (runner) beans or sprouts.

mangomama91 · 28/07/2020 15:30

Mash, veg and gravy

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/07/2020 15:48

Veg & onion gravy

EasilyDelighted · 28/07/2020 15:56

Peas and gravy.

HeyMicky · 28/07/2020 15:59

Gravy, obvs.

Then a mix of any "firmer" veg - cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, cabbage (red or green), carrots, red onions, kale, rainbow chard, butternut squash.

GracieLane · 28/07/2020 16:04

Green veg (usually cabbage, broccoli, green beans or peas but sometimes more than one veg). Gravy (preferably onion gravy, sometimes I add some mushrooms too). Maybe mash potato, maybe not.

GracieLane · 28/07/2020 16:04

I've had it with roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and red onion gravy too which was yum.

jessstan2 · 28/07/2020 16:06

@CupoTeap

I love a bit of mash, onion gravy and marrow fat peas, sorry I know not everyone's cup of tea
Me too. Lovely creamy mash, delectable gravy and whatever veg is fancied. Baked beans do if there's nothing else but peas and carrots are great.
GracieLane · 28/07/2020 16:08

I really want to try it with colcannon mash and buttered broad beans

EBearhug · 28/07/2020 16:12

Green veg, depending on what's in the fridge/freezer.
Mashed potato.

Gravy. There must be gravy.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/07/2020 16:12

i do mine with herbs and onions in the bottom...put those in with the oil, and I use a heavy roasting tin, then brown the sausages, and sometimes have more thyme leaves in the batter

serve with beans usually, or mash and extra onion gravy :o

AdaColeman · 28/07/2020 16:16

Mash, carrots/peas lashings of onion gravy. Colcannon is a great idea, will try that in the winter.

iknowimcoming · 28/07/2020 16:19

Mash, peas, fried onions and gravy - now I'm hungry damnit!

SittingontheSidelines · 28/07/2020 16:51

Mushy peas and mashed Swede lots of gravy.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 28/07/2020 16:56

Mash and either veg and gravy or beans.

I also make [https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/ultimate-toad-hole-caramelised-onion-gravy this]] toad in the hole when I can be bothered/have bacon in the fridge. Try it. You'll thank me.
