yes they are. We got the big casserole dish as a wedding present 4.5yrs ago and it has had so much use and still looks great.

They are very heavy though, especially when full.

Coolmama · 25/09/2007 18:34

I would say absolutely - treated with a little love and care they will last for years and you can really do a lot with them. - love mine

Too heavy for me. Also not very non stick.

Blandmum · 25/09/2007 18:50

I have two fantastic casserole dishes, which I use and are worth their weight in euros!

On a day to day basis I have to use lighter saucepans

Jenkeywoo · 25/09/2007 18:50

the cast iron casserole dishes are stupendous, as well as casseroles, they roast a chicken or other meat to perfection. it also always comes up clean which is nice. The down side is the weight and I don't think I could lift the saucepans every day. Also the v. expensive griddle pan has never quite been non-stick and my steaks get stuck!

ChippyMinton · 25/09/2007 18:52

Get casseroles you can use on the hob or in oven. Avoid the pans with wooden handles as they are too heavy (try draining a pan of pasta for example) and they don't go in the dishwasher.

If you find yourself in France, you can pick up cast iron casseroles for a fraction of the price of Le Creuset.

lulu25 · 25/09/2007 19:08

agree, cast iron anything is a PITA although le c poterie is nice.

their stainless steel pans (Trivita range) are also worth a look.

why are they so expensive though, isn't pyrex just as good?

the larger of my two le cruset dishes is now almost 20 years old and is still going stong.....very strong!

I love the fact that I can brown the meat and onions for a casserole in the same pan that I put in the oven! Can bring stuff to the boil on the hob, and then put in the oven etc.

Fantastic and really worth the cash

DottyDot · 25/09/2007 19:11

dp would say yes, definitely. I like the casserole dishes but think the big frying pan's rubbish - things stick like mad to it and it's way to heavy to move around easily, so I use our ancient cheapo one.

I love my le creuset. Totally worth it.

Wisteria · 25/09/2007 19:17

Yes, I have replaced everything with le Creuset recently.

They are heavy but I still manage, even with a very bad back (have got very strong ex-gymnast arms though).

DottyDot · 25/09/2007 19:18

When we moved from London to Manchester a few years ago, we had to move in with my Mum and put everything in storage - dp insisted on taking all her le Creuset to Mum's...

Tinker · 25/09/2007 19:20
