Enlighten me with some fresh and new ideas of meals that your teenagers like! I'm stuck in a rut, ran out of ideas and they still want to eat every day! Smile

To start the thread off, our favourites are:

baked potatoes with beans and cheese
pasta carbonara
lasagne
roast chicken
spaghetti bolognese
chilli corn carne
curry rice with peas and broccoli
cauliflower cheese

Hairy dieters doner kebabs

Household hits include:
Teriyaki salmon + tons of veg + noodles/rice
Chicken/veg pot pie with chips
Roast gammon. Day 2 = gammon fried rice.
Chicken enchiladas, chips and dips.
Homemade pizzas

Mine is becoming more difficult lately but her favourites at the moment are:

Chilli con carne
Bagel with salmon, mushrooms and lettuce.
Curry, but leaves the chicken.
Roast dinner (any meat).
Steak.
Sausage, mashed potato and peas.
Burgers.
Fajitas.

And that is about it for meals! She used to eat lots but has become very fussy.

Then when not having meals, will eat super noodles (given up trying to stop this).

And just crazy amounts of fruit. Also eats melted marshmallows.

Lock down has ruined eating habits!

@Turnedouttoes
We tend to use rice (microwave pouch type) or couscous as the grain.
Then tofu (eg crispy salt and pepper/chilli/miso) or salmon (poached or baked), halloumi, falafel or things like those pouches of ready to eat lentils or beans, spicy chickpeas. We sometimes do roast squash or sweet potato.
Then something salady, such as handful of bagged lettuce/spinach/tomatoes/radishes /edamame.
Then a veg such as broccoli/ fine beans/stir fried peppers/asparagus
Add a dressing and done. Depending on what we have changes the dressing eg if we have falafel we may just do a dollop of hummus or a tahini dressing. Dd's current fave is to marinate ribbons of courgette in garlic, chilli and soy sauce then stir fry and use the marinade as a dressing.
It all sounds a bit of an arse but essentially it's just lobbing bits from the fridge or cupboard into a bowl and giving it a fancy name.

Apologies for the essay!

Fajitas
Prawn risotto
Chichen curry/lamb keema & rice
Indian style shepherds pie
Fish finger sandwiches
Chicken & cashew nuts with egg fried rice
Lasagne

Mine are a bit of an odd pair as DS doesn't eat potatoes (apart from the shepherds pie above) and DD isn't too keen on pasta. Gluten issues means we eat a lot of rice!

Last week I've done creamy cajun chicken pasta for the first time and it went down great Smile

@HopeInTheDark At the risk of sounding dim how do you make the curried rice dish ? Thanks

HopeInTheDark · 17/06/2020 16:44

Next I'm going to try butternut squash soup with bacon. I suspect that anything with bacon in it should be fine! I will report back @ednatheevilwitch Smile

@hetty74 that's one of my super-easy 'cheating' options when I don't have time to cook properly. All I do is add a teaspoon of curry powder to the rice when I boil it, then after 5mins add frozen green peas and broccoli chopped into a million tiny pieces, to the rice. Again, it's nothing fancy at all, and I don't know if it qualifies as a recipe that someone else should try at home Wink but my teenagers like it, and it tastes different to plain rice so gives some illusion of variety, so to speak.
