Enlighten me with some fresh and new ideas of meals that your teenagers like! I'm stuck in a rut, ran out of ideas and they still want to eat every day! Smile

To start the thread off, our favourites are:

baked potatoes with beans and cheese
pasta carbonara
lasagne
roast chicken
spaghetti bolognese
chilli corn carne
curry rice with peas and broccoli
cauliflower cheese

hamstersarse · 10/06/2020 14:23

Steak, little teeny crispy roast potatoes, broccoli

My teens eat no junk at all. At all.

They demand excellent food which is exhausting.

Ninkanink · 10/06/2020 14:26

Then maybe they can stop demanding and you can teach them to cook to their own exacting standards? Just a thought...

OculusThrift · 10/06/2020 14:26

Mine love
chicken fajita pasta (basically chicken fajita filling tossed through hot pasta with cheese)
Chicken and pepperoni pasta bake
Paella
King prawn fried rice

averythinline · 10/06/2020 14:47

My DS doesnt like potoates apart from chips, or pastry or anything spicy..so we eat a lot of pasta/rice
favourites apart from pizza !
mango salsa chicken - [https://www.chelseasmessyapron.com/cilantro-lime-chicken/] says is a bbq recipe but just stir fried the chicken.
Risotto in all shapes and forms -Marcella Hazan is the master of italian food recipe books and her recipes are so specific he can follow them and has asked for his own copy when he leaves home.

Paella

toad in the hole

Jamie - fish with prosciutto (sp), sausage apple bake- quite a few of the lock down recipes

Udon noodles in good chicken stock with sugar snap peas, spring onions, mild chillis, red peppers, baby sweetcorn, and SL or cubes of chicken breast.

Penne regate pasta with smoked bacon lardons, pesto, frozen peas, broccoli, lots of parmesan (we sometimes add breaded chicken to this) and it can be eaten hot or cold.

Pain bagnat which is basically a salad nicoise in a large crusty round bun.

And a "pressed" steak sandwich version which is similar with fresh or roasted Mediterranean veg and olives etc but it's squished in to a hollowed out loaf of bread or wide baguette and pressed down with a weight or wrapped tightly in foil overnight (good for bike rides and picnics). The mozzarella, tomato and basil version of this is good too - just use olive oil instead of butter.

lamb or fish kebabs with flat breads

Studycast · 10/06/2020 14:54

sorry but "slivers" autocorrected to SL there for some reason!

hamstersarse · 10/06/2020 15:04

Ha ha ha ha ha

thanks

Hadn't thought of that

Ninkanink · 10/06/2020 15:06

Well? Your reply makes it sound like you think that’s not a viable option...

Why should you be exhausted whilst everyone demands you cook them fantastic food?

Are you always this uptight?

Is there any way my comment could have been slightly exaggerated with a lean to taking the piss out of the teenage mindset?

I'm fine. But thanks for your concern. Flowers

Ninkanink · 10/06/2020 15:17

It comes from seeing too many martyred women on this site complaining about how no one appreciates them, they’re just the household skivvy/cook/shitworker and they’re so exhausted etc etc. And then continuing enabling their perfectly capable teenage sons and daughters and/or OHs to perpetuate that pattern as well as modelling those same unhealthy dynamics for their children to take into their adult relationships.

But if it doesn’t apply then good for you and no need to pay any attention... Flowers

Really great ideas! Thanks for starting the thread @HopeInTheDark.

Ours loves

  • all things roast dinner
  • Pulled pork (with jackets, rice or in rolls)
  • stir fry’s & noodles
  • sausage & pesto pasta
  • fajitas
  • Sweet potato tacos
  • mash with sausages or pie
  • pepper stew (sometimes with meatballs)
  • chilli
  • cottage pie
  • bolognaise

Definitely going to try stuffed peppers and some Nando’s chicken.

Would totally exist on chocolate crepes, Oreos and super noodles if allowed 🤣

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/06/2020 15:53

One likes pretty well anything spicy but hates plain food such as roast dinners, sausages, meat pies, casseroles. No potatoes eaten at all, ever.

The other loves roast dinners, cottage pies, sausage and mash , toad in the hole but doesn't like spicy food.

The overlapping foods are pasta, pizza and Tex-Mex types, fajitas etc.

Collision · 11/06/2020 23:43

@ExpletiveDelighted same here 🙄🙄🙄

Ds18 loves

Roast chicken with everything including Yorkshire puddings
Spicy chicken rice

Pulled pork
DanDan noodles
Stir fries

Bananasplitlady · 11/06/2020 23:56
