For a socially distant celebration. What would you include?

Any recipes would be especially good.
Thank you

Will you all be making the same for our you posting it?

SleepingStandingUp · 20/05/2020 18:50

Oh sorry ignore me, in exhausted

okiedokieme · 20/05/2020 18:52

The three main elements are sandwiches, scones (with jam and cream) and cake. Depending on how you are serving it will depend on the cake choice.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 20/05/2020 18:52

We are having socially distanced afternoon tea tomorrow.
I'm making scones (or attempting to)
Bread rolls, will probably fill with egg mayo, pate and cucumber, just cucumber
Chocolate fairy cakes.

iklboo · 20/05/2020 18:57

Tuna mayo & cucumber
Rare roast beef & horseradish
Cheese & pickle
Ham & piccalilli

Fruit scones
Plain scones
Clotted cream & jam

Mini eclair
Mini Victoria sponge
Mini fruit tart
Mini lemon drizzle cake

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 20/05/2020 19:00

Little sandwiches, scones, a cake of some description round or loaf style, jam and cream separate, crispy cakes for the children and some homemade biscuits.

AdaColeman · 20/05/2020 19:02

Sandwiches with a selection of fillings, here are some ideas:
Smoked salmon & cream cheese or smoked salmon and cucumber
Cream cheese and watercress
Chicken & mayonnaise
Ham & pickle
Roast beef & horseradish sauce

Scones with cream & jam

A choice of cakes,
Chocolate cake
Victoria sponge
Fruit cake
Coffee & walnut cake

Possibly serve individual trifles or strawberries & cream
Some savouries such as small sausage rolls, devilled eggs, fish pâté on toast.

A choice of teas is good too, something robust like Assam, something fragrant, something interesting such as Oolong. Perhaps offer champagne or Prosecco?

HollowTalk · 20/05/2020 19:02

Smoked salmon and cream cheese on seeded wholemeal bread with the crusts cut off. Cut into four rectangles.

Grumpbum123 · 20/05/2020 19:02

Sandwiches- ham and mustard, smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg and crew, cucumber!

Scones- cream and jam, no scrimping on the cream!

Cake- mini Vic sponges, lemon tarts, mini eclairs, macaroons

CuppaZa · 20/05/2020 19:06

I would do:

Tuna mayo and cucumber
Cheese and pickle
Egg mayo
Beef and horseradish

Scones with jam/clotted cream

Mini lemon curd pastries or lemon drizzle cakes
Mini Bakewell tart
Fairy cakes

Something with chocolate, maybe a mini chocolate tart or a chocolate sponge slice or something

CuppaZa · 20/05/2020 19:06

Oooooooh - macaroons! Forget about them

CuppaZa · 20/05/2020 19:07
  • I forgot bout them
DrMadelineMaxwell · 20/05/2020 19:08

I've ordered an afternoon tea for friday from our local cafe.

If you were going to make an afteroon tea...
delilahbucket · 20/05/2020 19:16

We did this at the start of lockdown, we were a bit limited on ingredients, so I made a Victoria sponge, scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, open sandwiches on nice crusty bread (tuna mayo and cucumber, naice ham and mustard and egg mayo with cress). Also prosecco 😁

yearinyearout · 20/05/2020 19:25

I would make coronation chicken sandwiches, my absolute fave but I don't really follow a strict recipe. I just cook chicken and mix with curry powder, mayo, sultanas and mango chutney.

I'd definitely make scones and use the national trust recipe www.nationaltrust.org.uk/recipes/national-trust-fruit-scones

Carrot cake is my first choice on the cake front, for afternoon tea I'd probably do them as cupcakes www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/carrot-cake-cupcakes

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 20/05/2020 19:34

Thank you so much for all of these.
I am a bit spoilt for choice.

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/05/2020 19:35

I'd do finger sandwiches with the crusts off:
Smoked salmon and cream cheese
Ham and English mustard
Egg and cress

Some other savouries - sausage roll, quiche, scotch egg or similar.

Scones with clotted cream and strawberry or raspberry jam

Cakes - lemon drizzle and chocolate brownie.

More savoury than sweet for me.

VictoriaBun · 20/05/2020 19:38

I always think it's a nice touch to have a shot glass size of something such as Lemon posset it perhaps a mini pannacotta etc.

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 20/05/2020 20:33

So far I am thinking
Sandwiches - 2 or 3 types. Not sure which yet.
Either quiche Lorraine or goats cheese tart
Sausage rolls
Scones with jam and cream
Some combination of lemon, coffee and chocolate (maybe 2 options)
Lemon tart/drizzle/posset
Chocolate brownie
Coffee and walnut cake

Just need to be able to make things small enough so that people are not outfaced. Not like my usual huge slices of cake.

Would love to do macaroons but have never tried them before. Are they tricky?

OP posts:
Ouchjuststoodonlego · 20/05/2020 20:35

Is 2 enough with everything else?

OP posts:
Littleshortcake · 20/05/2020 21:27

Sounds gorgeous
Selection of sandwiches/ crackers and cheese
I was going to suggest some nice traybakes like 15s or some short bread

Cocktail sausages
Pimms/ lemonade

DateLoaf · 20/05/2020 22:39

Coronation chicken sandwiches, so lovely. And even more amazing if you drop in a few flaked almonds into your chicken mix

DerbyshireGirly · 20/05/2020 22:43

Little triangle sandwiches:
Chicken salad
Ham and cheese
Smoked salmon and cream cheese

Scones with jam and clotted cream

Miniature cakes:
Eclairs
Victoria sponge
Carrot cake
Lemon drizzle

Bottle of Veuve
Yorkshire Gold tea

Halved strawberries strewn nonchalantly for decoration
