yes - 2 pudding bowls. The Tything is in Worcester - and I am in NW Worcestershire (about 13 miles from Worcester) - although actually I just checked and the shop is on Foregate Street (which is the same road but a bit closer to the city centre).

As Hatwoman says the key appears to be that the stalk is very wide - think of one of those fairy toadstool playhouse things. The roof one has it's centre hollowed out so that it sits on top of the stalk.

Beauregard · 28/08/2007 23:26

ooh thanks Professor yes i guess that would work
Now to my next question where do i buy a pudding shaped pan?

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 28/08/2007 23:27

That's an easy one - pyrex mixing bowls.

Beauregard · 28/08/2007 23:28

So if i was to bake these shapes and cover in ready roll icing etc i would have me a fairytale edible and a mother of the year award?

stealth-Doh!
Good job you have a brain, lol.

That's pretty much it from what I can see. The book has a neat way of making fairies and a cute path up to the door made of star-shaped sprinkles.

My recommendation would be to go and read the book in a bookshop (unless you want to borrow mine!) - it's really not complicated - she has a white house with pink roof and white spots on roof.

Beauregard · 28/08/2007 23:40

stealth-I shall go seek out the book in a shop theni have until november,i just like to plan in advance!

Nice to know I am not the only one thinking about a November party already

jenkel · 28/08/2007 23:47

I made one.

Used 2 pudding basins, one slightly larger than the other, made the cakes and cooked in the basis, placed the bottom on the larger one on a piece of card and they stood the larger one on top of the smaller one. Covered in butter coloured butter icing, and decorated with sweets, made a door out of sweerts, put on a cake board and made a path out of sweets, made a litle chimney out of sweets, I was really pleased with it.

Flibbertyjibbet · 28/08/2007 23:49

Er, I've just booked ds1s party.... 16 Dec... am I too previous?
Mind you I did book it in the play area of a big shopping place, last year most people didn't come saying they had other things to do the weekend before xmas, so this year they can put the kids in the party and go xmas shopping in the same building!
But I am a bit at booking it so early...

Beauregard · 29/08/2007 19:36

I just clicked on stealthsquiggles link to the book and, looking at the cover I have to say - EASY???? The author describes those as EASY????

But also I have the Australian Womens weekly one thats featured on the same link, I love it cos you get a sheet at the back with all templates for numbers and designs.

My friend said today that her sis is making an In The Night Garden cake for party on sunday. We are not invited, but I might gatecrash just to check out the cake for future reference.

eidsvold · 31/08/2007 22:59

another vote for aussie women's weekly birthdya cake book - bible for birthdays in our house.

Fairy toadstool involves - two pudding bowls and cake mix and then slice the pointy top of one to make it flat iyswim.

your description of what you want to make is in that women's weekly book.

In fact that is the cake dd2 wants for her birthday.

even has toadstool pic on the front

ghosty · 31/08/2007 23:03

You HAVE to get the Aussie WW cake book
It is AMAZING ... and totally foolproof .. I have done all sorts from there and find it very amusing that people seem to think I am good at cakes. If I can, ANYONE can ... honestly.

Beauregard · 31/08/2007 23:04

Yes i am very tempted to buy this book ,probably will as i may be risking it to go it alone.

Flibbertyjibbet-In The Night Garden Cake would love to see it myself, try and sneak a piccy!

I've even got some racing car and chequered flags ready for when I make one of my Ds's the racing grid number 4 cake from the australian womens weekly book! They are only 2 and 1 yet ha ha!!
My version of a night garden cake would prob be a flat cake covered in iggle piggles blanket, just some red ready to roll icing on a sponge slab.

Beauregard · 31/08/2007 23:11

Got my AWW book in front of me now. You can tell I have boys, I never noticed there was a toadstool on the front!!

I don't have access to a free works photocopier as I'm self employed but can copy the pages at the library for you tomorrow (depending on ds's swimming) and send to you if you send me an sae and enough in stamps to cover the copying costs. email me on legoates @ aol . com to discuss.

I would send you the book to copy but its quite heavy for a paperback and the postage would cost you more than buying it new.

Beauregard · 31/08/2007 23:15

Aw that is very kind of you Flibberyjiiberty
Will do thanks!

I have to hit the sack now, will check email in the morning.
You should think about buying the book, the merry go round cake is amazing, but I think I 'm in for a life of dinosaur and racing car cakes

Beauregard · 31/08/2007 23:22

Just tried to mail you Flibberty but it is saying that the email addy is wrong!

ask Maureenmlove - she's out getting sloshed at the moment but she made a great fairy toadstool cake and it may even be on her profile so you can have a look.
